5.0 out of 5 stars Im a very happy "Lab Rat" for my plastic surgeon
I had a bilateral arm lift at Thanksgiving 2007. At one of my post-op visits my surgeon asked me if I would be willing to test the Kelo-cote, doing only one arm for 45 days or so. We selected my left arm which was also the arm that looked "worse". I used kelo-cote each day applying it after my shower. I experienced a definite difference within 7 days and was...

I experienced a definite difference within 7 days and was dumbfounded.
My son, who is an amateur photographer, recorded the progress in healing taking photos of my arms every seven days. By the end of 30 days I was telling my co-workers, my primary care doc, even my dermatologist how fantastic and dramatic the difference was. My dermo was so impressed he contacted the company rep to order it for his patients.
My plastic surgeon is just amazed at the results and I am now applying Kelo-cote to both arms for the next 45 days. I highly recommend it. A little goes a long way and I am going to order additional tubes to use on some of my older scars. It's worth every darned penny.

5.0 out of 5 stars Be Patient, January 6, 2008
I had surgery to lift my eyebrows with the incisions right above the eyebrow. I used this stuff for 90 days and saw fairly good results. However, a couple of months later, the improvement was significant and within a few months the scar was hardly noticeable. It does not work overnight but the end results are very good.

In new scar, no improvent at all, only relieved itching and pain in scar. Last injury in skin as result of a mole fulguration Kelo-cote prevented scar. Seems like kelo-cote is useless for old scars, and maybe there is a chance it only works to prevent new and small superficial scars.

4.0 out of 5 stars People Who Say It Is Sticky and Never Dries Are Using Too Much Product!, February 19, 2011

It says clearly in the instructions to apply a very thin layer, and if it does not dry after 4 minutes, wipe off the excess. The instructions also note that treatment may take up to 3 months for fresh scars and longer for old scars (they say to continue treating old scars for up to 6 months if you notice improvement after 3 months). My surgeon gave me a sample of this and I swear by it. The scar from the incision is noticeably smoother, less red and less tight/itchy/uncomfortable after treating for only a week. After the Kelo Cote dries, it forms a flexible, waterproof skin over the scar and I can wash my hands, put lotion or compression wrap on it without the skin being damaged (when I used bandages and Neosporin, every time I washed my hands, the skin got wet and macerated and damaged, even with "waterproof" bandages).

5.0 out of 5 stars Kelo-cote doesn't make me itch like the others., December 5, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Buyer beware of the reviewer that has only one review (without the Amazon Verified Purchase). That being said, so far I've used this for a couple of weeks. My scar seems softer and doesn't itch like when I apply the perfumed scar creams. The cream based scar treatments are hard to apply because it doesn't seem like it's getting absorbed by the skin. I prefer a gel that doesn't have a scent. So far, I see a little improvement in size and bigger improvement in texture (softer), but of course this treatment is long term. The other scar treatments made my skin itch, so that was definitely counterproductive. I'll have to come back and update this stuff, but so far it's working in a productive way.

Update: 1/8/11: this stuff has really reduced the size and lightened my huge keloid scar on my chest(my scar is nicknamed the worm). I'm updating my rating to 5 stars. this product is legit. Scar Zone and Mederma and all those tapes that you apply never worked like this. I've tried mostly every one of these products out there. Updating my rating to 5 stars and buying the 2 pack.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kelo-cote truly works!!!!, November 13, 2008

I did a thorough online research and narrowed my choice of scar removing cream/get to Kelo-Cote. Within one week of applying kelo-cote to my seven month old keloid scar (this was from an invasive surgery on my tummy) I noticed significant difference. It's just been two months of my using kelo-cote and I have only a tiny piece of the keloid left. I am very happy and my doctor is very amazed too, I had thought I would have the thick ugly keloids for life!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Burn scar gone, December 30, 2007
After using Kelo-cote for 4 days, my scar is completely gone. Prior to using I had several dark scars on my arm from grease burns. Now I have to look really close and still can barely tell where the scars were. Awesome product.

5.0 out of 5 stars works amazing, May 2, 2010
This review is from: Kelo-cote for scars (Misc.)
Perhaps it is best used before the wound heals but i started using this a few days after i got a large SEVERE maybe 2nd degree steam burn on my back.. we were all scared it would leave a huge keyloid scar, thats how my scars always end up. we applied this keylocote two times a day and kept the wound clean and oh my god it healed great amazing its COMPLETELY flat and just a little different color people think its a birth mark. you really need to get this if you want ur injury to heal great.

5.0 out of 5 stars ScarGel, May 11, 2009
I had extensive plastic surgery and was very concerned because I have a tendency to form keloids. The surgeon in Brasil recommended Kelo-Cote, so when I returned home, I purchased three tubes. They were a bit expensive, but I decided if it worked, it was worth the price. Not only have my new scars flattened out and healed nicely, but my old scars have benefited from daily applications. I was also impressed at how little product is needed to make a difference. I have already recommended your product to several friends AND have leftovers for when future scarring!!! Many thanks for a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive results, October 22, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kelo-cote Gel, .5-Ounce Tube (Health and Beauty)
Let me start by saying that I am an MD by training, but I don't practice and am not providing medical advice here...

I was pretty skeptical about any "wound healing" products available OTC (over-the-counter), given the poor history of products and limited clinical data published in the field. However, following a recent Mohs surgical procedure to remove a lesion on my face, I got two separate medical opinions to address the incision scar - the first from my surgical dermatologist was not to do anything given his experience that all these products fail to make any difference - the second from my clinical dermatologist was to specifically try Kelo-cote, the only product in their clinic's experience to significantly improve patient scars (according to him, the product reduces underlying fibrosis associated with poor aesthetic outcomes in scarring).

4 weeks following my suture removal, I had a significant visible red and gapped incision line, slightly spreading (normal). Per guidance, I decided to start applying a very thin layer of this product directly to the incision line...and I am really surprised to report, exceptional results in a very short time. The incision line is essentially invisible, the red indurated area is substantially reduced, and I am left with only a small discoloration and noticeable wound from the original excision (site where they cut tissue). To be completely fair, I did not use myself as study subject (ie, two surgical sites on same patient, and applied this product to only one of them, and then compared results), and therefore my report is anecdotal and not "scientific", but I can report in comparing the site during the weeks before the product use versus the 10 days on the product, that it demonstrates dramatic results. Given the exceptionally improved change in look and feel (skin texture, color, and visibility of incision line), I would strongly suggest this works, at least in my particular case.

I am writing here simply because if the product were to work as well for others, as it did for me, it is important for me to share my experience. I would be comfortable encouraging anyone with recent surgical incision (where surgical wound healing is fresh and incision lines are clean) to expect a good result, though like any clinical product, I expect that skin type, specific surgical history, underlying factors, etc would certainly influence others' experiences, so I would start with the smallest tube and see how the product works for you. An additional tip that I was told was by mechanism (ie, underlying process that allows tissue healing), it is best not to start use until 3-4 weeks or so after sutures are removed. I hope that other's experiences are similarly positive - in particular, I have thought it valuable to post this here for parents with children who fear a facial scar more than the initial injury itself, and other patients in which a facial surgical incision has brought angst over healing time and scarring. As always, please follow manufacturer's label, etc.

One additional small note - no matter how thin a layer I have applied, the ointment does stay somewhat sticky for the entire period of application - as such, it is clearly easier for me to use this on an open area (ie, the face) then in any area in which clothes might interfere. For example, my clinical dermatologist encouraged me to use this on an earlier surgical scar that has not yet healed well on my back, but I have not determined how to deal with the inconvenience of the sticky form there. So presumably the "tacky" formulation provides some type of template architecture to enhance healing or otherwise I would guess the manufacturer would produce a more convenient form. Nevertheless, I strongly recommend the product for open-air healing sites.

Important Update - I decided to undertake a deep water irrigation of the wound site (not enough to damage the tissue, but sufficiently rigorous to clear out any topical residue). What I found is that in my case, the gel was actually compounding itself in a residue that essentially covered the incision area (similar to re-paving a distressed street with new road tar, in this case with a clear gel). When I vigorously cleaned off the residue, the incision site was far more prominent than in my earlier observations, but still significantly improved. This residue collection and build up within the incision line and scar may be as is intended by the manufacturer and certainly seems to represent a cosmetic advantage, however, it is not yet "healed" and may account for why some users report a better experience in reviewing this product than others - that is, how deeply or superficially the residue is being cleaned off each day prior to reapplying affects the cosmetic appearance.
