I was buying kelp powder in capsules as a dietary supplement. I saw this on Amazon sold by Shop Natural. It is a much cheaper alternative to buying the capsules & to make the pot sweeter, it's ORGANIC which the capsules are not. Organic supplements are much safer than non. You absorb concentrated doses. If it's not organic you also receive concentrated doses of chemicals fertilizers, pesticides etc. Also Organic grown products contain more nutrients and antioxidents! I purchase Kelp because it contains Iodine. If you are a woman who suffers from breast pain due to PMS, try taking kelp. It is commonly recomended for breast pain. It worked beautifully for me. I went from horrible pain to no pain the first month after taking kelp supplements! Amazing! It's not a "placebo effect" either because I was skeptical that it would work. I don't know what else you would use powdered kelp for. I only use it as a dietary supplement.

Just wanted to add here that all Sea Vegetables, like Kelp, have a lot of Iodine.
So please read what I discovered below from another site that sells a lot of these type products - especially the Precautions below. Great product if taken correctly.

Summary
Japanese studies have shown that the high Iodine value in Kelp assists with healthy thyroid function and these results have been overwhelmingly supportive in it being an effective treatment for hypothyroidism. Preliminary tests are showing that it may be effective in the supplemental treatment of tumors, however to date these reports have not been validated.

Precautions
Don't use on a daily basis for more than 2 weeks at a time, taking a 2 week break before using again. This will prevent you from overdosing on iodine with a potential imbalance in thyroid function. For periodic use only and not to be taken for extended periods of time. Not to be used while pregnant.
