Great backpack, but shoulder strap stitching weak, November 3, 2010
This review is from: Kelty Redwing 2650 Backpack (Sports)
Purchased this as a multipurpose travel and light hiking backpack. The main compartment is huge and can carry a surprising amount of stuff. The zippers can be somewhat difficult to zip up due to fabric overlap ( overlap is a great feature to keep out rain). Straps are everywhere you want them to be, and the backpack fits under airline seats when lightly packed.
The stitching attaching the shoulder strap adjustment buckle to the shoulder cushion is a weak point. The stitching unraveled after about a week of light use. I looped the broken strap back through the adjustment buckle as an interim fix, which renders further strap adjustment impossible.
Kelty should have added much more stitching to this area. If you're going to buy a 2650, I would advise you to check the stitching right above the shoulder buckle and reinforce the area as necessary.

Best backpack I've ever owned, October 9, 2010
Got this backpack for a trip I was taking to Puerto Rico and several other islands in the carribean. I used it for about 8hrs a day and the straps never hurt even with a sunburn on my shoulders. It held all my gear plus stuff we bought at every port, great pack and highly recommended!

Excellent pack, June 8, 2011
This review is from: Kelty Redwing 2650 Backpack (Sports)
This is my second kelty pack, I have a Kelty Coyote 4750 and now this Kelty Redwing. Excellent packs, i bought the redwing since the Coyote was way to large for a two day hike. The Redwing is able to hold my sleeping bag, two person tent, rainjacket, clothing, water (bladder and three water bottles), food, knives, etc. It's perfect for a 1-3 day hike depending on how light you're willing to pack.
I'm 5'7" 175lbs and it fits perfectly on my body. The pack has a decent amount of straps to make it snug. I know someone had mentioned that the waist buckle seemed useless, i disagree. Both the shoulder straps and waist straps are able to take any weight and pressure.
The quality of the seams and stitching so far seem to be good just like my Coyote 4750 - this is why I like Kelty, it's quality built.
The pack has plenty of small compartments and loops to carry any extra stuff on the outside of the pack. The padding for the upper and lower back is excellent, along with the one peice of metal for the frame, it's solid.
I got the blood red - I'm happy with the color, it's exactly what i expected.
I definitely recommend this pack for a short couple day hike
Con:
I personally like when companies put the small pouches on the waist straps for a camera or snacks - this pack doesn't have that, but it's not that big of a deal.
