5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome daypack, especially at its price, July 25, 2011

I picked one of these up at a local Ross store for 27! I've been searching for some time for a daypack that had a laptop sleeve, plus sternum strap, plus mesh side water bottle holders, this has all three. Dig the pockets and layout. Didn't notice so much as even one frayed stitch, the quality of the workmanship is top notch. I've always respected Kelty for balancing the line of quality gear vs. value gear, and couldn't ask for more. I can't speak to its durability since I just got it but the shoulder straps are dead-on comfy when loaded and everything seems to be designed to endure. way to go, Kelty.

This is a great little backpack for carrying along your daily essentails. Has separate spaces for your laptop, phone or other electronics. Very lightweight but seems sturdy. Price was good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic school backpack, January 29, 2011
This review is from: Kelty Beat Backpack (Sports)
This backpack is the best school/college backpack I've ever owned or seen used by friends, and I got it for under $60. Best feature - the chest and hip straps to help balance the weight, the wicking material on the back, and the expandable front open pocket with the snap straps that can cinch all your contents very tightly. A comparable Jansport would probably be well over $100.

Like most reviews, though I love it and would buy it again I'll probably spend most of my time talking about what I don't like... but don't let that fool you, I do really like the bag! These are quibbles mostly, though if Kelty is out there listening, I hope they solve some of these tiny issues.

I love the roomy interior with the divided pockets that are very versatile (more like thin dividers than actual compartments, so they don't force you to use them or waste space), and the padded spot for the laptop - I have a 13" MacBook in a sleevecase (from WaterField - BEST sleevecase ever by the way, go check them out at [...]) and it fits really snugly in the padded spot, so if you have a large laptop it may not work out for you. I regularly haul a large textbook, binder, and a few notebooks in that back compartment, there is a little space left. Personally though I think the size is just right for what it is, a daypack.

The large front section is well utilized and fits most everything I've wanted to put in there. The expandable front open "pocket" is only useful if you don't have the rest of the pack crammed full, but it works for me to put my work shoes in there for the commute in snow boots. The outside of that pocket has a very thin pocket that doesn't hold much more than a travel pack of wet wipes (good use of the space IMO :) - wish that it had carabiner loops on it, then it would be more useful.

The very top media pocket is nice, but can get annoyingly in the way when you are trying to get at the inner padded pocket - I think the media pocket should perhaps have been smaller, however, I can't complain too much because I like being able to put a lot of items that I need frequently in there. I do wish there were two zipper pulls on it so that one could "lock" it more securely with a carabiner or something... kind of risky having your iPod so accessible to the world behind you like that.

Anyway, great pack and highly recommend it!

The Kelty Beat Backpack (green/Leaf color) is awe-some, very pretty color my favorite, and very roomy. great for ladies who want something that does not look too masculine.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for organization!, January 11, 2010

I bought this bag to have a smaller bag that would help organize things for school. It's really nice and light to carry around. It fits my 14.1' laptop in perfectly (only gripe is I wish it had more padding to support the bottom of the laptop). I use the pouches on the side for a water bottle and pencil bag.
