3.0 out of 5 stars Good, but could use some extra features
We only used the tent once so far. It was a cold and rainy weekend. One of the vents on the top of the tent leaked a little. It would be nice if the vents towards the front near the ground could be zipped shut for when it gets really cold out, because it kept letting cold air in. Otherwise it is a very roomy tent, you can stand up in it easily, shades are a nice touch...

I bought this tent 5 months ago and have spent many weekends this Summer living in it. I travel to a lot of music festivals and wanted something weather-proof, roomy, and tall enough to stand up in. These requirements were nicely met (and exceeded) by this tent. It is much roomier that your typical 4-person tent. At aproximately 9'X9', the interior easily fits a queen-size inflatible matteress with plenty of room on all sides for tons of gear. The nice thing about the height of this tent is that the roof is at its maximum height right inside the door - not just in the very center like most dome tents.

As far as being weather-proof, I've endured a few nasty wind and rain storms and I haven't gotten a drop of rain in it; The full-coverage rain fly on this tent is a wonderful feature. This tent also has lots of nice buckles, velcro, and elastic hooks secure everything firmly in place. Well-placed screening and vents keep air circulating in hot weather.

My gripes with this tent are few. One is that I've never been able to roll it up tight enough to fit all of the pieces back into the original carrying case. My other gripe is that the tent poles are so long, its difficult to set up in close quarters (between trees, other tents, etc.) and a bit of a struggle for one person.

I found the picture of this tent misleading and didn't understand the purpose of the ground flaps around the door until I saw it set up. The flaps secure the vestibule - a nice place to store your cooler, shoes, and chairs out of the weather or to use like a screen room to avoid insects. Go to the Kelty website to see a picture of the tent with the vestible attached.

All in all, I'm very happy I 'upgraded' from my usual department store-type tent to this much higher quality tent. Worth every penny!

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the better tents I've owned, June 2, 2007
By
We bought this tent from Sportsman Warehouse because we had a short period of time before leaving for a motorcycle rally. We paid about $222 for the tent plus tax. Used this tent for a five night rally for 2 people and enjoyed the space it provided.

Positives:

You can stand up in the tent as soon as you enter it. With a queen size air mattress, it allows us to stand and change clothes. Many tents have their highest point in the center which means you have to step on or move your sleeping gear to use that space.

The vestibule gives us space for our riding gear and a place to sit on our Kermit chairs if it is raining.

While it didn't rain, the tent fly does a great job of protecting the tent.

Very roomy for a four man tent. You could actually get a family of four in here!

Negatives

The entry door does have a solid closure - this means the top half of the door is screened but always see through. To change, you have to roll down the vestibule closures, or be quick!

This is a great warm weather tent but I think it would be very cold when the temps drop. No way to close up the front entry door, or seal off any of the vents in the rainfly.

The vestibule isn't really bug proof, in heavy mosquito areas, there are plenty of places they can get in the screened in vestibule area.

My wife and I attend 4-5 motorcycle camping rallies every year and I think this tent will serve us well.

We are currently a family of 3. There was ample room in the tent. After spending two summer weekends in the tent we still love it. My husband has put it up and down by himself. He has not had difficulty getting it back into the bag. A few bugs find their way under the flaps into the vestibule, but it is still great for a place to leave shoes and put coolers overnight. We put a ground tarp down large enough to provide a floor for the vestibule. We had light rain both weekends and were quite pleased with the tent. The only two reasons I did not rate the tent a 5 are 1- the vestibule door is at such an angle that it is very tough to bend over to zip it all the way down (and in the middle of the night to zip in and out of two doors to go potty can be loud!). 2 - the rain fly goes all the way to the ground and we ended up undoing the back of it and rolling it up on 90 degree days to allow more air into the tent so we did not over heat everything. The tent would not have cooled down to sleeping temperatures during the day. I would not take this tent to a festival where we camped in open fields during mid-summer. Overall, we love the tent, the spaciousness (we will easily have a family of 4 in here), and the vestibule (a great place to strip down a toddler before entering the tent. (They are out of the mosquitos, but you can pick off the ticks before they go into the main tent.) This tent is a good fit for most weekend family campers. It is too heavy for backpacking, but we didn't mind carrying it in to our primitive site two football fields away from the car.

we very much like this tent. It is well made and we just returned from a camp in all night rain and strong wind. Not a drop of water. It is not perfect, but very much worth the money we spent on it.

This tent is great. I had backpackers gear already, and got sick of mellow car trips where my dog and I had to squeeze into a tiny tent on a skinny thermarest. Now I generally camp more leisurely and this is awesome. Spacious, bug-free and absolutely a GREAT vestibule. I do struggle to put it up on my own, but it's worth the trouble. I haven't zipped the carrybag up since opening it the first time but then I haven't tried very hard. Now I sleep on a cot with the dog on a real dog bed and we are both much happier campers. It has loops for a gearloft/lantern (LED) and pockets on the sides. We have our containers of bathroom and kitchen gear stashed at the sides and room left for a nice blanket to cover the floor. Pleasant!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Family Tent, December 5, 2008

We got this tent before Thanksgiving and put it up in the back yard over the weekend to see how it would weather the upcoming rainy weather. It did fine. I did not water proof it through the first night of storms and it did leak a bit in the back where the rainfly does not come all the way to the bottom of the tent. After waterproofing seams and all, it was fine. I do love the vestibule. It's very roomy. We used a 9x12 inch tarp under the tent, and it worked well. There was no water penetration from the floor. I recommend that you replace the tent pegs. They are cheap and don't hold up in heavy winds. You can replace them with the steel ones from Walmart. They don't cost much, and it's worth it.

Purchased for family "car" camping. Easy to set up. Spacious, seems to me could easily accommodate 5. I do wish the door was completely fabric; not half fabric half screen. It is definitely a 3 season tent; more like a 2 season. The open ventilation is great in the Summer...little too much when the temps drop. Held up fine in the wind. We really like the vestibule. All in all, a great tent for the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great tent, high ceiling, water proof and love the entry., September 11, 2009
This review is from: Kelty Green River 4 Four Person Tent (Sports)
Simply great. Love the entry way for giving you space to take shoes off, keeping the tent clean. I left it up for a week in the back yard and it went thru a couple good storms and remained up and dry inside. I love the high ceiling and space inside, we had 2 adults and 3 children and 1 infant sleep in it (that is definetly the max). Only wish is that the tent had lighter polls, then it would be an awesome backpacking tent for a group of four (but I can't find any tents with these features that I like that has the lighter polls).
