When the weather turns wet, a full-coverage rainfly goes on in minutes, and keeps the tent's interior completely dry while still allowing sufficient ventilation.
Kelty produces outdoor equipment, backed by a limited lifetime warranty, that's built to withstand the punishment dished out by active outdoor enthusiasts. The Gunnison 4.1 tent is a fairly recent addition to the company's popular series of the same name, and earned a "2009 Best All-around" award from Backpacker magazine, as well as a "2009 Great Buy" nod from Outdoor Life.

A spacious four-person, three-season home away from home, the 4.1 boasts 60 square feet of interior space to spread out sleeping bags, gear, and sleepy campers. Two vestibules and two doors make for easy in-and-out, and the air always stays fresh thanks to ample mesh material in the roof and walls. If the weather should turns damp--or more privacy is desired--the full coverage rainfly goes on in just moments, and still lets air circulate.

My wife and I spent months researching tents as we are both very experienced adventurers. We own a total of 5 quality tents and the Gunnison 4.1 is by far our most versatile with the best protection from the elements. We are firm believers that you get what you pay for. You will not regret buying this tent! It is quality technology all the way around with a fantastic weight to strength ratio. I am not a paid person that types up reviews for these things. Saw it on here while searching for a Kelty backpack and had to share my review due to its outstanding performance about 6 months ago.

We bought the Gunnison 4.1 along with the matching footprint specifically for backpacking and exploring in New Zealand. It held up to everything the Mauri Gods could throw at it, including a Heavy Rainstorm/Flash Flood Advisory that we camped in on Mt. Tongariro. 18 hours of constant rain fell on this tent and we stayed remarkably dry. We even woke up the next morning to the tent standing in 2 inches of water and still not a single drop inside. It almost seemed as if the tent was floating on water. We were amazed and very glad that we made the decision on selecting this tent.

The twin doors provided easy access for both of us to enter and exit without climbing over one another. The double vestibules were essential as we could both get out of our wet rain gear and boots without tracking water into the tent. Some may look at this tent and think that it's too heavy for just 2 person use. I however believe a little extra space is worth the additional weight of 1-2 lbs when compared with other lightweight tents. My wife and I enjoy the incredible amount of space we have in this bad boy and can both sit up comfortably in it with plenty of headroom. I'm 6'0 and she's 5'10 by the way.

i bought this tent along with their 2 man version about a year ago from amazon. 1st, they shipped it quick. the price was very good, and it was an easy process. i have used this tent several times now, which is what i wanted to do before i gave a review. it has held up great. very easy to set up. it packs down small enough to easily carry on my bike when i tour. the main thing i wanted to add was we went to raystown lake in PA a few weeks ago for a week of fun and play on the lake. it rained 4 out of the 5 days we were there. i had it set up for 3 of those days for my nephew to use. it rained over 4 inches in 3 days. the tent never leaked a bit. he was as dry as can be. i also wanted to add, i never put one ounce of seam sealer on it. great tent. get one, you won't be disappointed.

I did a lot of research before buying this tent. I wanted a durable tent that was easy to set up and would keep me and my girlfriend dry. This tent is great. There is plenty of room inside and the tent compacts down pretty nicely- take out the poles and stuff it all in. This tent came with us for a six night trip to Glacier National Park. It hailed, rained, and sleeted, yet we were kept dry the whole time. The only negative I would have to say about it is that the rainfly has to be perfectly centered, otherwise it will not cover the whole tent and water may get in. I wish there were a couple extra inches on each side of the fly. We love the vestibules and the tent is very breezy in warm weather.

I really enjoyed the two vestibules. They keep both my firewood and chairs dry during an overnight thunder storm. I stayed dry inside too. Liked the pockets. Set-up for 10 days in a variety of weather with no issues. Better for warm weather. I wouldn't mind if it were just a little bigger.

Really nice tent, easy setup. Only wish the was a cover for the air vents for those windy chilly days in the fall or spring.

This is the first I've owned, but probably the 5th or so I've had experience with. I've had it for several years now and used it in a chilling 10 degree winter, during many balmy 80 degree summer nights, and through a few torrential rainstorms. It does it all expertly with no fuss. To start, it packs 9.8lbs and measures 26"x7.5" as I pack it. I include a 9'x7' cheapo blue tarp for a footprint in the tent sack, which fits the floor perfectly and the tarp's metal eyelets match the tent stakes exactly. I use it primarily for motorcycle travel and camping.

Setup is simple. Lay the tent out, stake out the corners, erect and insert the poles, attach the tent clips, cover with the rain fly which clips into the tent corners, and finally stake the rain fly doors down. It takes about 10-15 mins to to. Tear-down is the reverse and takes a few more minutes more to carefully fold it to the right size.

The tent doesn't really retain a lot of warmth in the cold nor does it allow for a lot of wind to penetrate the interior. Winds don't really bother the tent due to the dome shape. The rain and water stay out and you can touch the walls without fearing leaks due to the double wall construction. Several times I've experienced heavy rains with local flooding where water accumulated between the tent floor and the footprint; the tub kept the water out all but one time. I think it was because the water was cold and the condensation was building up on the inside of the tub. Nothing a towel didn't fix. I was able to sit in the space without more water leaking in so I don't think it's an issue of waterproof ability. One last thing to note about rain, it's challenging to get in and out of the tent during a storm without getting water through the doors.
