My daughter had wanted an American Girl backpack for herself and doll but they had discontinued it. This was a much better and less expensive option. Her doll fits very well, it's great that the velcro straps are fully adjustable for any toy you would want to put in it. Also, the toy area just about disappears when not in use, it is very low profile and you would never know it's there when the toy is out. Pack is a small child's pack and perfect for an afternoon out or trip to Grandma's. Not to mention, if her brother needed to borrow it, you would never think of it as gender specific.

We have two of these backpacks. Red, for my 4 year old son, and an orange one for my almost 2 year old. The colors are fun without being garish. The size is such that it works for both of them, without having that "little person big backpack" look you see so often. The doll/stuffed animal carrier is a nice, fun touch that is actually useful, as we can put my sons' stuffed friends in there when the rest of the backpack is full. It also snaps and velcros shut in a way that you hardly notice it is there when not in use. It also has surprizing capacity. We can fit a crib sheet, nap blanket, and full size towel in the pack with some room to spare. The side mesh pockets are big enough to hold a water bottle.

On the down side, the backpack's tapered top makes fitting a standard size paper or folder a bit of a tight fit, so it might not be appropriate for school aged children who will be bringing such things home on a regular basis. Also, our red backpack, which we have had for just over a year, is showing some signs of wear with a small hole in the base and the snap holding the doll carrier closed has fallen out (this is not a fatal injury, as the velcro still holds it securely closed). But, considering the wear and tear it's exposed to, I feel it has been fairly durable and would buy again.

We love this backpack. We have been looking for a back pack for our little guy that will last, yet not be too big. This pack is perfect. The colors is great too. My hubby thinks we should order another just to have on hand (perhaps for our second baby)! We recommend this for anyone looking for a pack for their young child (my guy is 16 months)
