This CD has got to be one of the best CD's that I have heard in a long time.
Carol Cason
It's really good to know that when you've pretty much given up on the condition of today's music, that you can hear an artist like KEM.
A Love Supreme/GeminiRising
It has a great mix of soothing vocals, heartfelt lyrics and smooth jazzy background music.

IF YOU ARE INTO SMOOTH RELAXING MUSIC WITH GOOD LYRICS...THIS IS THE CD FOR YOU. I FIRST HEARD THIS ABOUT KEM WHILE IN CHICAGO, THE SONG "LOVE CALLS" WAS ALL OVER THE RADIO. THE CD HAS A JAZZ/R&B FEEL TO IT. THE CD HITS ON LOVE, SOCIAL ISSUES AND THE SPIRIT. I JUST HOPE THAT MOTOWN DOES THE BROTHER SOME JUSTICE ON THE PROMOTIONS. MY THOUGHTS ON THE CD:
1. Matter of Time...A SONG ABOUT LIFE AND CHANGE.(4)
2. Miss You....A JAZZY TUNE ABOUT MISSING THE ONE U LOVE.(4)
3. Say...MY FAVORITE. MELLOW RELAXING THOUGHT PROVOKING.(5)
4. Inside...AN UP-TEMPO SONG. GOOD FOR STEPPERS.(4)
5. I'm Missin' Your Love...SECOND FAVORITE. A MID-TEMPO SONG (4)
6. Love Calls....YOU JUST NEVER KNOW WHEN LOVE WILL HIT YA.(5)
7. Brotha Man...A GOOD SONG ABOUT SOCIAL ISSUES AND THE SPIRIT. (4)
8. Cherish This Moment...MID TEMPO SONG. (5)
9. This Place (Dedicated to the Church of Today)...THE TITLE SAYS IT ALL...AND I LIKE IT (4)
10. You Are...A NICE LOVE SONG. THIS WOULD BE THE WEDDING SONG OF THE ALBUM (5)

I first heard Kem at a friend's house. Now, being originally from Detroit, I know good soul music when I hear it and it takes a lot to impress a native. But when this brother's satiny vocals started pouring from the speakers, a part of me just melted. The very first thought that cam to my mind was the warm breeze on a humid Detroit summer day (if you've ever been, ya know what I mean!). I imagined a midnight ride along the Detroit River with my love with Kem's voice as our soundtrack. I know it sounds cliche', but this brotha is smooth. He effortlessly blends jazz and soul, gospel and a little bit of coffeehouse vibe, all with that tinge of Motown flavor that makes it so delicious. "Missing Your Love" is one of my favorites because it reminds me of my long distance lover and its just so damn cool. The songs blend into one another like a seamless line. This is grown folk music, y'all.
And I can't end this review without mentioning the fact that Kem is almost a dead ringer for Al Jarreau in his song stylings and mood. Now for the diehard AJ fans, this may sound like blasphemy, but its true. There is that familiarity and effortless melding of lyrics and melody that make me think young Kem might just be kin to the great Al Jarreau, or at lest one of his greatest admirers. You never know...

I recently attended an affair and hear what I thought was Al Jarreau's latest CD. This song resonated in my mind all night. I promptly went to the music store to purchase it. Much to my dismay, I was wrong. I repeated the lyrics to the sales person and was advised that it was a new guy name "Kem". I was in shock to know that it wasn't Al Jarreau. But off I went with my new CD. I haven't stopped playing it since. What a GEM !! I'm loving this. I generally play smooth jazz when I have clients in my car (I'm a Real Estate Agent) however, I've been playing this awesome CD. Everyone always ask....Who is that? It strikes up a nice conversation. This is truly a breathtaking CD. Kema is amazing. I understand that this is his first release. Be assured that I'm already in line for the many CD's to come !!! Keep up the good work. Kem is a remarkable, mind blowing talent !!!!

After hearing "Love Calls" on the radio, I had to hear more from this gifted vocalist. At first listen, I could hear the purity and the many dimensions of that VOICE, which is soothing, smooth like 18 year old Appleton, seductive, and playful. Kem is not your ordinary run of the mill singer but an extraordinary song stylist. His voice dips and dives, rounds syllables (much like Al, Anita, & Phyllis), scats, and just downright croons.
After getting ahold of Kemistry I was not dissappointed, rather joyous of the fact that I owned a solid musical experience. This is adult music at its finest. The ambience is intimate and jazzy. The instrumentation is also complimentary to Kem's vocal prowess. There are also nice percussive elements that add to the vibe of the cd. My favs are "Love Calls, Brotha Man (lyrics are beautiful), Inside, and This Place."
There's not much else for me to say about this product other than get this cd.

This cd is a must have. I became familiar with Kem in the summer of 2002. I heard his cd Kemistry on a radio station in Detroit. His sound is very much like Al Jarreau.
This brother from the Motor City is truely awsome. From the first song to the last song this cd will not let you down. Now his cd is being released on Motown Records. I had the pleasure of going to his cd release concert in Detroit on February 25, 2003.
Not only does his cd sound good but he is excellent in concert.
Many great artist have come out of the Motor City and now we have another rising star.

True music fans...may I have your attention please..If you do not own this cd by now..I asked that you order it, right after you read my review. This is truly a mixture of great vocals, production and style like I have not heard in sometime..Imagine the voices of Marvin Gaye, Maxwell, and Al Jarreau mixed together...Extraordinary! and that's what you have here with "Kemistry" the new cd from KEM-The cd opener "A Matter Of Time" is both jazzy and hypnotic balladry with Kem adlibing and scatting throughout this Al Jarreau-like track. Kem brings stylish vocals on the gem "Inside" awesome background vocals, sounds like he used the British R&B group Loose Ends on this mid-tempo groove -definitely a pleaser."I'm Missin Your Love" this is pop, R&B, 60"s soul with a little dash of Marvin Gaye style all rapped up in one -Loved it. The single from this cd, the sexy bedroom ballad "love Calls" is a bonifide classic-you want romance? play this for that special someone in your life and you'll get it. Another showstopper is the bouncy yet mello "Brotha Man" powerful vocals flow on this inspirational, uplifting tour de force from the beginning to the end, the scatting is amazing. The Artist KEM...The cd "KEMISTRY"."Cherish This Moment"..because the cd is amazing...you can buy it now....enjoy!
