Solid lug wrench.. not so Professional,

This review is from: Ken-Tool 35656 4 Way Professional Lug Wrench (Misc.)
Let's talk lug wrenches ! The 20" long "standard non-metric" lug wrench I own now was the cheapest lug wrench I could find when I paid $18 for it 3 years ago. It's chromed, beautifully machined around the side edges, and rounded off perfectly at the ends. It has the English sizes clearly etched in the side of the wrench. It still has a shiny chrome finish after numerous uses, and is made in China.
When I unpacked my new 20" long metric Kentool 35656 Professional it was filthy, and still had metal shaving shavings on the ends left over from when it was machined. A few paper towels later I had cleaned the metal shavings off the ends and wiped the dirt off the shafts. I went to wash my hands after cleaning the shafts, and noticed the blue paint from the shaft was all over my hands. Obviously the paint was not baked on.. just painted and sent out the door. The ends of the wrench are very roughly machined/rounded off.. just a lazy "who cares" machining job. KenTool also didn't even bother to mark the metric sizes anywhere on the wrench. Again.. it apparently was just too much work. They did however; take the time to clearly etch the KenTool logo in the center of the wrench. MY THOUGHTS: This lug wrench fits my metric lug nuts with no problems. Although this is a very solid wrench, 1/2 pound heavier than my English lug wrench of the same size, why pay 33 bucks for this so-called PROFESSIONAL wrench ? It's poorly painted, no size markings, and poorly machined. Nothing about it says "professional", and there's surely nothing professional about KenTool quality control. There are other choices out there for a cheap 20" metric lug wrench like Amazon's KR Tools 50716 for 15 bucks that's eligible for free shipping. Although it won't be drop forged just ask yourself, "How many times in my lifetime have I seen or heard of someone twisting a lug wrench so hard they broke it."? With that said.. if you frequently add 2 foot long pipe extensions to both ends of your lug wrench for added torque, then you may actually need this wrench.

This is a very solid, well-made tool. You can really tell the difference with drop-forging as opposed to welding. Fit seems nice on my lug nuts. The only complaint is that the size is not engraved or otherwise marked on each end - for the price I think that's not too much to ask, but if it's there I sure couldn't find it. That's the only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 - I marked the end that fits my tires myself so I can find it quickly on a dark, rainy night (isn't that usually when you get a flat?). Still, this is the lug wrench I would buy again.

A great US-made tool,

If you need a lug wrench, it doesn't get much better than this. The drop forging rather than spot welding makes a huge difference in the quality. Plus, it is made in the US (Ohio), which is a great bonus.
Another reviewer mentioned that the machining was rough and the paint came off on his hands. The machining was fine on mine, but some paint did rub off on my hands. But you just need to wipe it down with a sponge once, and it won't happen again. As far as the ends not being marked with the mm size, just put a piece of tape around the end that you need for your car. Problem solved. Even with the minor paint problem, I still give this a 5-star due to the ruggedness and US manufacture.
