Editorial Reviews

Review

The ''Wizard of Words'' returns with his newest adventure in Kendra Kandlestar and the Shard from Greeve. Author and illustrator Lee Edward Fodi flawlessly mixes magic, monsters, and mystery for his readers. In this third book of the fantasy series, Kendra Kandlestar battles herself as she must choose between being a true sorceress or becoming a powerful master of dark magic. Readers will be on the edge of their pages as they watch Kendra Kandlestar struggle with her choices. This family friendly series and exciting book is filled with thought provoking issues, and Kendra Kandlestar and the Shard from Greeve will entertain readers of all ages. --Sara Hassler, Midwest Book Review

Kendra Kandlestar is back with an amazing new fantasy adventure in this third volume in the series. Mythic archetypes are explored amidst plenty of humour and action. Kendra also faces choices that illustrate the importance of accountability in our lives. --Best Books for Kids & Teens 2010, CCBC

About the Author

Lee Edward Fodi has been writing and illustrating stories about magic, monsters, and mystery for as long as he can remember. Growing up on a farm, he was subjected to various horrible chores such as cleaning chicken coops, picking cucumbers, and raking gravel. This is probably why he wrote Kendra Kandlestar and the Shard from Greeve, a story that attempts to instruct children in the dangers associated with wicked items such as eggs, pickles, and rocks. When he is not chronicling the land between here and there, Mr. Wiz (as he is so often called) spends his time speaking at schools or helping kids sculpt their own stories through writing workshops. He now lives in Vancouver, Canada, where he takes great care in avoiding items of dark magic.

A Kid's Review
Format:Hardcover
I love your third book, with Uncle Griffinskitch's Humphs, Kendra's braveness and attitude of exploring, and obviously you can't forget Oki and his puns (sounds like my sister). Anyway, I hope you continue your chronicles to, say, a seventh book!

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the most magical book I've ever read! December 20, 2011
A Kid's Review
Format:Paperback
I finished reading the third Kendra Kandlestar book. It was such a good book. My favorite characters were Oki and Kendra. Kendra is such a smart girl, even though she's young. Oki is really funny. Every time I read about Oki, he made me laugh nonstop. The shard felt so real; I thought I was holding it! This is the best book ever.

More About the Author

Growing up on a farm, Lee Edward Fodi was subjected to various horrible chores such as cleaning up after chickens, pigs, geese, and younger siblings. He continually craved adventure and often found himself searching between the cracks of here and there in hopes of discovering an enchanted world populated with magical creatures, talking animals, and other creatures of faerie.

Several years later, he had the stroke of good fortune to stumble upon the secret Land of Een and now he is most pleased to have the official title as chronicler of the adventures of Kendra Kandlestar.

When he is not chronicling, "Mr. Wiz" (as he is so often called) spends his time speaking at schools or helping kids sculpt their own stories through creative writing workshops. He has taught workshops in the US, Canada, England, Korea, and Thailand.

He enjoys traveling, and especially exploring castles, mazes, tombs, and temples around the world -- not to mention tiny places hidden between the cracks of here and there.
