Steer clear of Kenmore canister vacs for the time being. This is my second Kenmore canister vacuum. It will be my last if they can not fix the floor attachment. The swivel joint when bumped on a chair or molding pops off. It gets progressively worse over time. I occasionally walk through sears to see if they have made a change AND NONE SO FAR. I have had this Vac for 4 years. Plenty of time for Kenmore to remedy the problem. Maybe they are gonna slowly get out of the vacuum business?? I should have bought new hose and pipe for my older Kenmore vacuum as those accessories are MUCH better than the redesigned version. It was over ten years and running strong. I tried to review the part on sears website and they would not allow me to post a one star review on the part page (NICE).
[...]
If you don't believe me go to sears....put some force on the floor brush and it will separate at the swivel. Every time this happens it requires less force the next time. Major pain added to the already painful chore. Hope it helps!

I'm a single thirtysomething with a long hair cat and very little time to tidy my place. As a result, my place is far from being a model of cleanliness. My decison to purchase this vacuum came stemmed from a long history of my girlfriend complaining about a neverending supply of dust and cat hair on my floors. I tried my best to combat the problem with the upright Bissell I owned but the machine could not handle the task. Eventually a stern ultimatum was given by my girlfriend; either address the floor issue or she would no longer visit my place. I had to bite the bullet. I reviewed several vacuums, testing none. The Dyson Animal model appealed to me, but with a far heftier price tag, I finally decided on a Kenmore. After opening the box and a brief glance at the instruction booklet, I powered up the machine. I was nearly in shock when I made the first pass over my living room rug. The rug that once had cat hair and dirt granules that could not be lifted were immediatly stripped from the rug and the results appeared almost infomercial-like as the vacuum head glided over the surface. I actually enjoy vacuuming thanks to the machine. No more messy apartment, no more angry angry girlfriend. This unit should be considered to anyone in the market for a new vacuum.

I have owned several Kenmore Progressive canister vaccums over the years. I bought this one from Amazon because of the great price. I love the vaccum, but hate the newly designed tools that accompany it. It is very quiet and has good suction, but the tools stink! Why do companies always think that a new upgrade on somethings are needed. The location of the brush and its design are terrible and the same goes for the furniture tool. When something works great, why change it! I am only giving the vaccum 3 stars because of the NEWLY designed crappy tools!

This unit replaced a 23 year old Kenmore whose hose was held together with duct tape and the plastic had yellowed. That vacuum was still going strong but when we moved, I decided it was time for a new one. We love this new vacuum. The suction is so powerful, there's nothing this thing could not clean. The attachments are great and easy to use. The price was a great value. For a canister vacuum, it is very lightweight and best of all, the power head is very maneuverable, allowing you to easily get to those hard to reach places. Overall, an excellent vacuum.

What a great price on this canister vac. Great deal! I have used Kenmore canister vacs for years and felt lucky to have found this one on Amazon. It does a great job on all my rugs and floors. The attachments are a bit awkward, but cleaning is excellent.

I have owned this vacuum for about a year and a half. Use it once a week to vacuum regular house. Wheels have fallen off power head. Cannot be fixed. The sockets just worn out. Cheap Plastic rotating on plastic. Have had many sears vacuums before all lasted many years. They are not made the same anymore. Stay away. One year warranty...and thats all you get before it falls apart. New power head unit is $319.00 from sears....the only place you can get it. More than I paid for whole vacuum. Buyer beware!!!! Go elsewhere other manufactures give 5 year warranty that's because they are made to last 5 years....not one!

Product arrived very quickly. It says it is used, but it came in the original box. The vacuum was wrapped in plastic with all attachments, instruction pamphlet, and tools. It is brand new. At first the hose handle did not stay connected to the wand, but it was my fault. I wasn't connecting them hard enough. I have used the vacuum 5-6 times now and haven't had any problems.

I used to buy Kenmore progressive vacuum cleaners through Sears and bought the Sears warranty which cost a lot of money. This vacuum only cost as much as the Sears warranty would have been, so I will only be buying them "used" on amazon from now on! Tremendous savings on amazon VS. buying at a Sears store.

It's a bit heavy, but how else could one get one of the most powerful vaccume cleaners. It performes perfectly on high pile carpets as well as marble tile.

1. Lid does not stay up to change the bag, it will slam shut on your hand.
2. Paper bags that fit are not available so you have to use the huge cloth ones $$$$ that take up 1/3 of the compartment area themselves and can not unfold. This causes less suction and the bag can only hold 1/4 of it's capacity being crammed in a space it wasn't designed for. This is wasteful and very costly.
3. If you stand the vacuum up to change the bag, in order to avoid it slamming shut on your hand, the hinges jam and you have to force it back in place to close.
4. Power connection at front of machine is eventually damaged by pulling the hose to move while vacuuming and unit is broken.
5. Doesn't balance going up stairs and will tumble down.
6. Floor attachment is difficult to remove, have to push detent button, and step on the attachment while pulling with both arms.
7. Full bag light burns out and you don't realize it is not cleaning for a while.
8. Cord retract system leaves cord coiled instead of flat after extending, so moving the vacuum more than 9 feet causes the cord to pull out of the wall because it is kinked.

All these problems could have easily been avoided with a little common sense in the design. Unfortunately profit, not consumer satisfaction or ease of use is the priority. This is not an individual unit fluke, I have seen many of the same model built just as shoddy as the next. If you don't want to be constantly aggravated, have your hand slammed shut on and waste a lot of money on bags $$$$$, don't buy any Kenmore canister vacuum.
