Yes, it will suck that kind of stuff up!

I had a Kenmore cannister before the upright that I foolishly gave away (it is still working fine after 18 years)and this is almost exactly like the one I had.

This machine has very good suction and is easy to maneuver.

looked for over three months to select a cannister vacuum and read many, many reviews. I have an upright that does a wonderful job on carpet but is heavy and very poor using the attachments or for bare floors and like many others, I have replaced my carpet with hardwood. I had a Kenmore cannister before the upright that I foolishly gave away (it is still working fine after 18 years)and this is almost exactly like the one I had. So far, it has performed flawlessly and does well on both bare floors and carpet. For $22, I did buy the 3 year extended warrenty but my purchase price was still less than $185. Like other reviews, the lid is somewhat stiff, but so was the old one, and I never had a problem. It is very quiet, lightweight, and the cord is a good length. The color is ugly in my opinion, but I bought it to clean, not as a decoration. I do like the option of being able to turn the powerhead on/off at the top of the handle and love the fact that the power switch is foot activated and on the cannister itself; changing the dust bags is very easy

I go through vacuums like I am a millionaire. I despise uprights! I won't ever empty my wallet for another one! Might as well just flush my 400 bucks down the toilet.

I love my kenmore! Its broken to hell, but I march it straight outside to the garage and make my husband fix it! It would be good as new if my teenagers didn't use it to suck up their dirty laundry and junk food trash! Yes, it will suck that kind of stuff up! They think if they break the vacuum they won't have to clean! Well they got a worthy adversary in mommys kenmore! Yeah, this one doesn't break like all the other ones!

I purchased this machine to replace a late 1980s Kenmore. It's an ugly lime green but that doesn't bother me. Although obviously more cheaply made it works very well and all my attachments from the old machine fit perfectly. If I didn't have the extra wand/hose it would be a pain to remove the power mate to use the floor attachment. However, there is a switch on the handle to turn off the motor on the power mate to use it on bare floors. Kind of clunky to use this way but it picks up well regardless and doesn't spread dirt around. This machine has very good suction and is easy to maneuver.

For an inexpensive power nozzle canister, you really cannot beat the value. I bought this one at the retailer responsible for the Kenmore name, and I have been very pleased. Keep an eye out, this unit goes on sale often.

As far as the unit goes here are a list of pluses and minuses.

Pros:
Powerful suction airflow for tools and above the floor use: It really is a powerful tool for dusting, furniture and the like.
Good power nozzle: The power nozzle has adjustable heights, a bright headlight, and does really well getting dirt, grit and pet hair out of carpeting. It is also easy to push; it practically glides forward on its own.
Cheap bags and filters: Bags and filters for this machine are reasonably priced, especially if you buy online.
Relatively quiet: this machine isn't silent but it won't run you out of the house either.
Nice long cord! YES!

Cons.
Cord rewinder. It's a little touchy but not bad. Careful when you get it to snap back in, it SNAPS.
Tool quality: this is where you can tell you're dealing with a cheaper vacuum. The tools are not the best quality, definitely not the same attachments that came with your grandma's Electrolux. However, they are adequate.
Lacks quick release on wand: it's a bit of a challenge disengaging the hose from the powerhead wands for tool use, at least until you get the hang of it.
Powerhead doesn't swivel: This is a minor inconvenience but if you're used to a swiveling nozzle, you are going to accidentally disconnect the power head from the wands on occasion. Trust me, I've done it.

Overall, I like it. It performs as well as or better than many more expensive vacuums I have used, and doesn't break the bank. It is a relatively well-built (by modern standards anyway) machine that is very versatile. It also has a standard wand, so you can use any older (often better) attachments with it, and they will work beautifully.

Love this vacuum. Light enough for my 5-year-old to help! My only concern is opening and closing the door to the tools. It seems pretty cheap and could break pretty easily. But that has nothing to do with how well this vacuum works. I love it.

I love it to death. My god this thing sucks and I mean in a good way. Easy to use also and seems to work like it should. So far I have cleaned the whole house using all the tools. I like the floor brush over the beater for hard floors. But the beater bar is nice light and works fine. I have used it in 4 rooms and no problems with it at all.

Also the wands are stander-ed size so for me I am using older wands for the tools and leaving the other ones on the beater. So a tip if you spot or have older wands all ready you can use them for just the tools and not have to remove the beater bar power cord each time.

The bag is also easy to change I gave it a look over and not hard at all. Just lift out in install new one. The black foam filter behind the bag could be made cheap using a window ac cut to fit foam filter. Since it does not need to be changed much it could be washed.

Hepa filter looks basic and would be easy to find in most stores.

I read about the cord winder and so far it works like it should. I am not a fan of a cord winder myself but heck I like it.

The beater bar power nozzle is nice and the light is a plus. I find for my carpet med works well. Low my goes it seems to pull itself.lol
