1.0 out of 5 stars Designed to fail, May 10, 2009

I have a four-year-old version of this product. It needed service on the refrigeration unit after two years, and needs it again. Why? The evaporator tubes are aluminum, the tube supports are steel. This creates a galvanic cell which corrodes both metals, eventually eating holes in the tubes and letting the freon escape. If they claim the problem no longer exists, make them take the unit apart and show you a magnet won't stick to the tube supports.

2.0 out of 5 stars needs improvement!!, June 29, 2011
This review is from: Kenmore 70 pint Dehumidifier w/Electronic Touch Controls
I have a version of this, the 54501. It is very, very loud. Also, I have never been able to get the hose and tube to stay connected so that the water will flow into the basement drain. So I'm emptying the bucket constantly. Which brings me to the reason I gave it a couple of stars - it *does* suck a lot of water out of the air. Next time I buy a dehumidifier, it won't be a Kenmore.

1.0 out of 5 stars Sounds like an angry banshee, June 4, 2011
This review is from: Kenmore 70 pint Dehumidifier w/Electronic Touch Controls
The compressor is not merely loud, it's loud and irritating. It's irritating when it runs in the basement and we're upstairs with the door closed.

We leveled it carefully and it's still far too loud.

It needs a higher quality compressor and a higher quality mount.

We're returning it.
