So one fine day our Kenmore Refrigerator's water dispenser stopped working. So we called Sear and they took 3 weeks to get to your home. When they came , they said that they needed to replace this part and that the total cost of all labor and parts would come too $350. That was ridiculous as all I had to do was add another hundred bucks or so and get a brand new fridge. So we went online and purchased this from amazon.com and then replaced the faulty part ourselves. Mind you we have never done anything like this before and we were so proud of ourselves. The instructions are very clear and it is very easy to replace it.

I read through all of the reviews, and decided this would be an easy replacement. I have the Kenmore side by side refrigerator, and the water dispenser was leaking, causing water streaks down the front of the black refrigerator. I watched a youtube step by step video as I installed the new water valve, especially since it looks different then the old one (most of the time this will happen, since they have updated the water valves). All of that was fairly straight forward. Where I ran into a snag was when I was attaching the LAST hose. It was too big for the final valve!! I saw that this product came with a union, and this is where things became frustrating. In the directions, and watching the video, there is no mention of this union that came with the product, or why a union would be used. There was also no troubleshooting I could find online with the problem I had, especially since I don't know all of the technical terms for the various parts of the fridge. The union that the kit came with is 1/4" to 1/4" (again, not mentioned at all in the directions..not sure what this would be used for). However, I had a 5/16" that needed to be connected to this final part! I went to Home Depot, and found unions specifically for refrigerators, specifically for the size I needed (coupling a 5/16" hose to a 1/4". Got home, coupled the hose from the fridge to the couple, to the hose that this product came with (cut off a small part) and put it in the valve. I wish that somewhere there was an indication that I may need a different size coupling. I have never done any work on a refrigerator before, so I really had no idea what I was doing.
I would give this product 5 stars, but I want to be sure people see my review in case they run into a similar problem, and hopefully this can help someone else save a lot of confusion.

I'm not mechanically inclined and therefor intimidated by this repair as the original part for my refrigerator was discontinued. This is the replacement part and did not look like the original. Nevertheless, I managed to install this properly with the instructions provided.

After removing your old water valve you will have to cut the tubing ends to reconnect to the new water valve kit. When reattaching the tubing be sure to push the tubing real hard to make sure it seats to the bottom of the hole. The tubing will hit a hard spot and need to be push in further. I didn't get my seated correctly the first time and had a spray of water. I would advise to check for leaks before pushing refrigerator back against wall. Overall I am pleased with the product and would recommend as a replacement.

This valve worked great and was easy to install. I watched a video on YouTube for instructions. Replaced because line was freezing, due to leaking old valve. This valve was much more expensive to buy at my local supply store($80).

The fittings were actually turned backward from the original part, and possibly reversed (I can't remember), but the support bracket was correct, and there was enough play in the water line to make it work. Easy fix, great way to save some bucks.

At first I thought I had the wrong part, then the directions sorted everything out for me. The part requires some customizing (at least for my fridge), you have to snap one of the inlets off if you don't need it, but in the end worked very well.

Dealer repair would have been very expensive. Got the valve for half the dealer price and installed it myself without a problem. Instructions were simple to follow and entire job took less than an hour.

This valve assembly uses push on fittings for the water connections, which are very easy to install. The included instructions were accurate, and best of all it WORKS!. Highly recommend it.
