4.0 out of 5 stars Great stylish entry-level watch

The descriptive pics are indeed misleading. Watch has a really large glass pane; it's sort of like looking at a wall clock.
You might like it IF you have very big wrists and/or like large, eye-catcher, fancyish watches. Otherwise, it was a little disturbing for me.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great stylish entry-level watch, February 13, 2011

A little over half a year ago, I set out on the hunt for the perfect watch for me. I am 22 yr old slender asian male. This means one important (and unfortunate or fortunate, depending on how you see it) fact: my wrists are incredibly slender and kiddish. Personally, I have no preference for the chrome strapped watches or any watch that has a jewel or metal strap. I think it is a little too much for me and clashes with my own personal style. But the problem is that fabric and plastic straps are too informal for work and business situations, which as a young professional, I am in more than 60% of my waking time. And that is ultimately what led me to looking at two Kenneth Cole NY Men's watches--the one that you currently see on this product page, and also the Kenneth Cole New York Men's KC1460 (http://www.amazon.com/Kenneth-Cole-KC1460-Multi-Function-Leather/dp/B000X33R04/ref=sr_1_35?s=watches&ie=UTF8&qid=1297660346&sr=1-35).

I ended up choosing this watch (the KC1650) over the KC1460 simply because I believe this watch looks classier since it has more of the old-fashioned style to the face, while still leaving it with a sleek modern black sports finish.

When I received the watch, I realized two things:
1) the watch face was much larger than I originally anticipated--it's actually very hard to visualize for you, so I'll give you a tangible comparison: I can fit four dimes in a square on top of the watch face.
2) my asian wrists still meant that I had to tighten the strap to the second or third tightest holes. (honestly, I would fit women's watches.)

It took a while to grow on me since like most of my generation---I had not been wearing a watch regularly for some time now. (My cellphone had replaced my old watch back in 2006.) But six months later, I have to say that I have become really happy with this watch. It's really grown on me, and it adds that little extra professional flair that you can take with you to business meetings, and when you're out with your friends, it adds a little bit of class to your appearance. Overall, I think it's a great entry-level watch for anyone looking to get a timepiece for not just telling time--but for appearance as well.

And if that's not enough, I'll break it down into a PRO/CON list for you :)

PROS:
+ Relatively inexpensive for a business casual watch (compared to other options)
+ Looks sleek and classy; definitely will get you some compliments
+ Has a nifty sports watch timer (times up to 60 minutes using a second-hand clock and a minute clock)
+ Sturdy; strap also ages well with you (it is leather, after all)
+ You can use it for professional settings and for casual settings

CONS:
- Is slightly faster by a few milliseconds (adds up over time; I find myself adjusting it back one minute about every 45 days) (this might just be a defect with my watch though).
- Since this is an entry-level watch, this may not be something you're looking for if you're trying to look like an executive (or if you are one...or gifting to one...)
- Not really a sports watch since you could break the watchface's glass if you were doing something intense like rock climbing. I only recommend this watch for business/dress and casual settings.

OVERALL RATING: 8.5 pts out of 10 pts out of all the entry-level watches

Good gift to a young professional or young adult, especially if they don't really like the chrome/metal straps.

I bought this for my roommate as a b'day gift and he loved it. It's got a fairly big dial and fit perfectly on him. I, personally, am not very fond of the strap and would not have bought it for myself because it looks too hard but my roomie liked it.

The numbers are clear and big enough to read and I think it does looks very classy. Bought it off Amazon at a good price and prompt shipping as usual.

2.0 out of 5 stars Kenneth Cole let down, June 14, 2011

This review is from: Kenneth Cole New York Men's KC1650 Classic Multi-Function Analog Quartz Polyurethane Strap Watch (Watch)
I bought the Kenneth Cole New York watch about 6 months ago. I set out to buy a reasonably priced, simple, stylish watch.
I was quite happy with the style and size, it has a fairly large face which is what i expected and i like. The three dials on the face give it a bit more character but are next to useless. The black leather band makes the watch look smarter and it is very comfortable to wear.
But the sole purpose of a watch is to keep the time and that is one thing the Kenneth Cole New York watch DOES NOT DO!
Throughout the course of a night the watch will have fallen behind about 8 minutes. A day goes by and it has fallen behind 24 minutes and so on. This is very disappointing.
I do still wear the watch out and many people compliment me on it. I just say thank you, fully aware of my cross to bear. I just have to reset the time before every wear it.
This is not what i expect from the price i paid.
I would not recommend this watch to anyone unless you are looking for an expensive bracelet. I gave it two stars because it stays on your wrist and looks good.
Please, get something that tells the time.

It is a fairly nice watch, the strap is kinda short but I have extremely large wrists. If you're medium size to smaller size you'll have no problems with the fit. The strap is very very stiff but that is because it is brand new. I give it 4 stars out of 5. Will check back in the future to tell how it is working.

5.0 out of 5 stars So far so good, December 31, 2010

I've had this watch for just over a day now, and really love it so far. The overall design, the face and its 41mm size is just right for both dressy (e.g., the office) and casual (e.g., to grab drinks). Speaking of size, Amazon's measurement picture appears to be inaccurate; the case is definitely 41mm, not the 34mm or so the graphic shows. The polyurethane strap is a little stiff to start, but I'm sure will be broken in soon enough. Overall, I'd say this watch simply offers a tremendous value. For such a reasonable price it's fantastic looking, sturdy, and versatile.

UPDATE: It's been over 2 months since receiving this watch and I still have only good things to say. I'm fairly big on timekeeping accuracy, considering it's the underlying purpose here, and luckily I haven't had to reset the clock once (a thumbs up considering my habitual misfortunes in this area). On the face size -- it's not small, as other reviewers have noted. I'd consider it just on the larger side of average/medium (and I have very small wrists). Maybe it's just my generational perceptions or preferences - I'm a 27 year old burgeoning lawyer. But as such, I'm able to spend each day in an office environment not deficient for constructive feedback on excessively large-faced watches (among other things). Fortunately I've received only complementary comments on this one. I can't say the same for my TAG Heuer Carrera Automatic... Black face, stainless-steel band and bezel, same size face as the Kenneth Cole (41mm), an overall beautiful watch (even better that it was a gift). But I don't wear it often because it looks big, bulky, and a little too flashy. So why the difference between the two where the faces are the same size? Because the TAG's case is considerably thick while the Kenneth Cole's case is far thinner, and much more proportionally appealing as a result. In sum, this Kenneth Cole offers a terrific value as a versatile, dependable, classy everyday watch - still 5 stars in my book.
