The First item I ever returned.
on February 12, 2014
I just purchased this watch a few days ago. When I came home from work today I happily went to open my new box of goodies. In addition to this Kenneth Cole I've recently purchased;
Citizen Men's BM8180-03E "Eco-Drive" Canvas Strap Watch
Casio Men's AW80D-7A Sports Chronograph Alarm 10-Year Battery Databank Watch
Invicta Men's 8935 Pro Diver Collection Two-Tone Stainless Steel Watch
Casio Men's MQ24-7E Classic Analog Watch
Casio Men's MQ24-1E Black Resin Watch
All of these watches exceeded my expectations both in looks, feel and polish. I can't say enough about the two Casio MQ24 watches. They look much classier and hold time better than their pricetag would indicate. The watch on my hand currently is my Citizen "Eco-Drive", a great looking everyday watch that I can comfortably wear with cargo shorts and a t-shirt for the low 80's. For a few dollars more I would even go with the Invicta Rolex homage.
But this isn't about those watches... No this is about the Kenneth Cole watch sitting back in its original packaging sitting in front of me. My first impression mixed. The box was flashy, though scratched, and it had some heft to it. After fumbling with the "do I slide it off or peel it off" confusing top to the watch box, I found a frosted medium-light grey watch wrapped around a soft white pillow. Tge first thing I noticed about the watch was the face. It was stark white and contrasted unpleasantly with the darker than expected metal surrounding it. I would argue that it does not have the "ice" look that the photo would indicate. The face was on the large end, but I knew that coming into the purchase. I had planned on wearing it with a casual suit or long sleeve shirt, just peeking out from my cuff. When I pulled the pillow and watch from the box things started going down hill quick...
The crown felt loose and cheap in the fingers. The band... Oh man, I can't stress to you enough how light this monopoly pop metal game board cheap piece of crap feeling band takes away from the watch. The face, while somewhat unpleasant to look at in person has some weight and from a squinted distance 3/4 covered by a sleeve could look classy. Pair it with the dollar tree band - that out of the box had rub marks (apparently from the highly abrasive silk packaging) that had taken the matte finish off of the steel(tin coated plastic more like). And you have me back at my computer in 15 minutes writing this word of warning review and opening a return. DO NOT BUY, many other great options out there and this is not one of them.
Seriously, my watch isn't a fluke or a defect. This is just a low quality, but well photographed watch. Don't waste your time and certainly not $40+.
