The Debut That Started it All...,
By The Groove (Boston, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kenny Lattimore (Audio CD)
At a party I attended in Brooklyn a few years ago, the television was on and it aired a video from a guy by the name of Kenny Lattimore. The name of the song was "Never Too Busy." There was something about it (well, a LOT of things, actually) that grabbed my attention: the classy production, Lattimore's honey-smooth voice, and the cliche-free lyrics. The video had me take a mental note to grab his debut, which far from disappointed me. Living up to the promise of "Never Too Busy," Lattimore's debut is a crisp, clean slice of soul that smartly shuns the gloss and overproduction you'd find in radio today. To be sure, this isn't an album that boasts a list of trendy producers, and not all of the songs will grab you instantly. But its modesty and Lattimore's voice (which never overemotes or goes overboard in delivery) make this CD worth the trip. There's the excellent ballad and hit single "For You," the Teddy Pendegrass-sampled "I Won't Let You Down," and the genuine mea culpa "Forgiveness." This is ultra-suave soul for the mature listener who's not looking for instant-gratification beats or showoffy vocals. It's a soothing, relaxing disc that comes highly recommended.

What R&B SHOULD be...,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kenny Lattimore (Audio CD)
When my best friend told me that this singer Kenny Lattimore had the "bomb"CD, I said, "suuure." I even listened to the CD...then promptly forgot the man even existed.... ...that was until I heard "For You" on the radio. I was, for the first time in a decade, spellbound at the radio (the first time was when I heard Anita Baker's "Sweet Love"). I then resolved that I would buy this cd...since then, it rarely leaves my CD changer. Even in my car, I'm constantly playing "For You" and the absolutely wonderful "Joy" to "Always Remember" and then to "Climb the Mountain." As someone else said, "sublime"...absolutely wonderful.

Slicker than your average R&B album,

Kenny's got it all - the good looks, the charm, the musical talent to write & produce and the smooth vocals. Put all of these attributes together and you end up with one fine collection of R&B tracks to make one solid album. I still listen to this album from start to finish so many years after its release and I don't get bored of it. My favourite tracks are Never Too Busy and Just What It Takes. I'm sure many babies have been made to the music on this album. This is a great CD to listen to when you're having a romantic evening indoors or when you want to listen to slow jams during a romantic drive with your mate. Enjoy.

Kenny Lattimore,
By WILLIE A YOUNG II "willow" (Houston, TX.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kenny Lattimore (Audio CD)
From the lush opener, "Never Too Busy" with it's heavenly chorus of background vocals, to the closing "I Won't Forget Whose I Am", Mr. Lattimore fairly oozes with manly devotion, sincerity and an overall urge to eagerly prove how good he'll be to his woman. While the subject matter is refreshing in this age of sex-obesessed, wannabe thugs and gangsta poseurs, it tends to get a little monotonous over the course of an entire CD. For smooth, laid-back candlelight dinner music you'd be hard pressed to find anything better, but it if you're looking for life altering, innovative music for the ages, look elsewhere. This qualifies as pleasant background music. A Fine Debut.

Even in 2004, this album is still wonderful!!!!,

I just bought this album not too long ago and man, why did I sleep on it for so long. This is one of those few albums where you can listen to it all the way through toooo many times and not get tired of it. All the songs are just that good! And, you will never get tired of Kenny's smooth voice. But, what makes this album truly great is the fact that although the album was released about 8 years ago, it's still contemporary and very refreshing when compared to a lot of today's music. To anybody reading this review and are curious about buying this album, it's a worthy cop. Buy it!!!!

Great artist, even better music,

I usually only buy singles, because rarely do artists put out albums you can listen to from beginning to end. This is one of the rare gems. I love every song on this CD and am glad to have gotten it as a gift. I wish more singers would hone their talent on CD instead of across several. Way to go Kenny!

Oh, Kenny -- where have you been all my life and why aren't you on all the airwaves of the world!! I'll soon have to purchase a new CD because I've probably passed the limit of playing time. This man makes me fall in love over and over again. His voice caresses the ear, and the mellow rhythm of each song just knocks me out. And, oh, those soulful lyrics -- they say so much! Kenny's my nomination for the greatest singer of all time. I will buy every record that he ever puts out.

IN A WORD: EXCELLENT,

KENNY LATTIMORE IS ONE OF THE MOST TALENTED UP AND COMING ARTIST I HAVE SEEN IN A LONG TIME. IN AN ERA WHEN MOST MUSIC HAS THAT "BUMP AND GRIND" MESSAGE, IT'S NICE TO SEE SOMEONE COME ALONG AND GIVE US BACK THAT OLD SCHOOL FLAVOR THAT SOME OF TODAY'S MUSIC LACKS. HE BUSTED ON THE SEEN WITH THE JAM 'NEVER TOO BUSY' AND IMMEDIATELY CAUGHT EVERYONE'S ATTENTION. THE FOLLOW-UP TRACK 'FOR YOU', I THINK THAT MUST HAVE BEEN THE WEDDING SONG OF THE YEAR. HE HASN'T EVEN REACH THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG WHEN IT COMES DOWN TO RAW TALENT. I HAVE BEEN TO A LOT OF CONCERT'S AND SOME ARTIST SOUND MUCH BETTER ON WAX THAN IN PERSON, WITH KENNY, WHAT YOU GET ON WAX IS WHAT YOU GET LIVE. I HAD THE PLEASURE OF SEEING HIM IN LOS ANGELES, CA. AND I MUST SAY THIS, HE IS A TRUE BALLADEER. KENNY LATTIMORE IS THE BOMB.

I absolutely LOVE this CD!! I was pleasantly surprised. The only cut I knew was "For You' and, quite frankly, I was kinda tired of it from the radio. But when my sister brought it with her on a 5-hour road trip I had a chance to listen to the whole CD. Needless to say, I was supremely impressed! This Brotha can really SING!! He has a crisp ear and great execution. I "borrowed" it from my sister until I can get my own copy and I listen to it all day every day at work!! I'm hooked! Go, Kenny, Go! Can wait for the sophomore release!
