Review
"...a rich, word-chewing voice...Salwey uses it to spin tales of life on the backwoods of the Mississippi..." -- Saint Paul Pioneer Press, December 4, 2005

Review

MN History Magazine,Fall 2006

“Through his example, the ‘Woodsman of the Mississippi Backwaters’ teaches how to observe, respect, and learn from nature.”

Outdoor News, Dec. 9, 2005 (circ.: 32,000)

Leader-Telegram (Eau Claire, WI), Dec. 9, 2005 (circ.: 27,000; website)

5.0 out of 5 stars Tales of a River Rat, May 1, 2006
By LaVerne C. Paulson (Preston, Minnesota) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
An excellent sequel to The Last River Rat. Kenny tells tales and spins yarns that make you want to read much more. Each story tells not only of life along and on the River in Kenny's own words, but how these experiences have shaped his life. He then uses these lessons to teach us how precious life is, be it the short life of a brown trout, a hunting dog, or a squirrel named Dusky. There is plenty of humor in this book, but interwoven with that are stories of life that cause us to stop and say to ourselves, "These are some powerful lessons to be learned. " Kenny has given many people a different outlook concerning nature itself, life in the swamp, and growing up in a time that was much less complicated. Sometimes we just have to stop and smell the skunk cabbage.

5.0 out of 5 stars river rats, December 23, 2007
I liked this book so much, I ordered another copy through Amazon to be sent to a dear friend, I met at the Redgreen lodge. I am waiting for the chance to see the documentary on most of our PBS stations again. Or Discovery, whatever they show it on. In either case, a good read for just about anytime. thanks, paul
