Book Description

May 31, 2004
For more than a century, Kennywood has been the Pittsburgh areaÂ’s playground. Founded in 1898 at the terminus of the Monongahela Street Railway trolley line, the park quickly grew into a favorite summertime destination. Kennywood is unique in that it is one of the countryÂ’s few successful trolley parks. In 1987, Kennywood was designated a National Historic Landmark and is known today as AmericaÂ’s Finest Traditional Amusement Park. Many unique rides and attractions have distinguished Kennywood over the years. Some old favorites, such as the Rockets, Laff in the Dark, Ghost Ship, and Skooters, are long gone. Others, such as the Old Mill, NoahÂ’s Ark, Auto Race, Turtle, Whip, and Grand Carousel, still entertain guests today. Kennywood is perhaps best known for its impressive collection of roller coasters, from earlier coasters such as the Figure Eight, Speed-O-Plane, and Pippin to the Racer, Jack Rabbit, Thunderbolt, and PhantomÂ’s Revenge coasters that still thrill riders today.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kennywood is a place for memories, March 11, 2007
This review is from: Kennywood (PA) (Images of America) (Paperback)
This was a very interesting book, especially for one that went to Kennywood while growing up - school picnincs, family visits, band trips for Fall Fantasy parades, dates, etc. to see the history of Kennywood.

I would recommend this book to anybody that grew up in the 'burgh & went to Kennywood.

5.0 out of 5 stars memorys, August 30, 2009
This review is from: Kennywood (PA) (Images of America) (Paperback)
I'm 75 years old and the book brought back many fond memories of school picnics at this old fashioned amusement park just outside of Pittsburgh, Pa. Anyone interested in the history of old amusement parks would find this of great interest.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Kennywood Memories, January 2, 2008
This review is from: Kennywood (PA) (Images of America) (Paperback)
This book brings back the memories of this wonderful amusement park. Sixty years ago PPG in Creighton, Pa. would have a train especially for their annual picnic at Kennywood. From the towns along the Allegheny River picked up the employees to spend a wonderful day at the park. The train stopped and it was a long walk up a steep hill to enter Kennywood. What a worthwhile climb! Happiness was spending a full day there. PPG gave out prizes at drawings for their employees at a designated area.
Many different ethnic groups had their day at Kennywood. There were great picnic areas. The grounds were always clean. The landscaping crew had flowers everywhere. Buy Rick Sebak's DVD on Kennywood.
It was great seeing all of the recorded (photographs) and narration on a part of personal memories at a wonderful setting that many of us will never forget and cherish forever.
