More reminiscent of Ernest Hemingway in his bathrobe than of Sir Alec Guinness playing the venerable Jedi master, this vintage 3.75 inch action figure by Kenner is still well worth acquiring.

More reminiscent of Ernest Hemingway in his bathrobe than of Sir Alec Guinness playing the venerable Jedi master, this vintage 3.75 inch action figure by Kenner is still well worth acquiring.

Collectors frequently never unpack their STAR WARS figures, and in fact, mint and near-mint sealed and carded figures are more valuable than unpacked ones. Certainly, I have several scale figures in their original display boxes, but the Jedi are too dynamic to leave packed, and the packaging of the smaller figurines is not suitable for home display anyway. My Jedi (including Darth Vader and Darth Maul) are more or less companionably occupying the end of a bookshelf in various battle poses.

Despite the Papa Hemingway resemblance, General Obi-Wan "Ben the crazy wizard" Kenobi is a must-have addition to this little gathering, even though the figure is a bit disappointing overall. Bent at his (unarticulated) knees (as if running) this Kenobi figure is the only one in the collection which has difficulty freestanding upright. To do so, the figure has to be arranged in an obviously peculiar and unnatural stance.

He comes with a removable plastic cloak (looking like he's in long johns without it) and the longest lightsaber of any Jedi figure I have seen. Put him next to Darth Vader and watch 'em duke it out. Well, not really...
