5.0 out of 5 stars The dynamism of Kenpo motion, February 29, 2000
This review is from: Kenpo Physics: The Science of Motion (Paperback)
Lee Bachman's latest literary endeavor, Kenpo Physics: "The Science of Motion", has much to offer the contemporary Kenpo practitioner. The theories and insights contained therein will be of much assistance to any student of Kenpo, whether one be advanced or a novice.

In particular, one of this book's themes that I have much appreciation for deals with the dynamism of motion. While Kenpo is often thought of as being a system characterized by a certain rigidity and a focus on strong hand strikes, this book demonstrates that the motions in Kenpo are in fact marked by a gliding fluidity. And so, even though Kenpo does retain its dimension of power movements, there is another dimension which translates and interprets these strikes, blocks and kicks into a gentle pattern of flowing motion. This combination of aggressive power strikes in a fluid motion further exemplifies the genius of this particular Martial Art.

Certainly, these concepts are not easily dealt with, but I believe that Lee Bachman has met the challenge head on. His interpretation and commentary upon the style of Kenpo remains valuable and insightful, and it is my hope that the readers of this book will learn much about the system of Kenpo from Mr. Bachman, as I have.

Kenpo Physics is a good book. Once again Mr. Bachman has show his desire to expose the reader to a vast array of areas in Kenpo. It covers a plethora topics as is Mr. Bachman's way, touch on them just enough to make you want learn more. It is filled with photos to illustrate points as well as formulas that give you another way to visualize his points. The areas of the books that I found particularly interesting were the Blending of Components, Rhythm Adjustment of Movement, Memorizing Through Visualization and Practical Application of Extremities. There were also some areas that I didn't quite understand. I e-mailed Mr. Bachman and he promptly dropped me a line and cleared them right up. I think this one is worth checking out also.

5.0 out of 5 stars KENPO PHYSICS ISBN 0-9652672-6-1, March 3, 2001

Mr. Bachman demonstrates HOW and WHY the Kenpo techniques work. I find this book valuable for all who study the Art of Kenpo. Lee breaks down a simple technique into primary and secondary movements and then manipulates these variables. I never considered Delayed Sword in this perspective. This is just one small aspect of this book. Some of my other favorite subjects are visual perception, baiting and the morphing of moves.

Lee out did himself when he wrote this book. He really goes into detail when he explains formulating a technique. My favorite section is on visual perception. Understanding angling and proper timing helps improve my Kenpo skill. I've studied under Lee for over 10 years and I find this book a necessity for your Kenpo studies. It's one of my favorites.
