5.0 out of 5 stars Almost Perfect!
I love this little speaker!!! It is compatible with almost all types of MP3 player and all the ipods. I have it for a few months and it works perfectly! Sound quality is great, superior bass! I am really picky about the quality of mini speakers and have tested numerous of them. None is perfect. But my research and experience have convinced me that currently there are only...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the money
The reviews I read said this was a poor choice for $150 - and I agree. But at about $60, I thought it could possibly be better than others I'd heard in the same price range. I was right - it is the best sounding speaker I tested for the money.
I set it up on an office credenza. With it's slim design, it fit great up against the wall. But, it sounded like a...

I love this little speaker!!! It is compatible with almost all types of MP3 player and all the ipods. I have it for a few months and it works perfectly! Sound quality is great, superior bass! I am really picky about the quality of mini speakers and have tested numerous of them. None is perfect. But my research and experience have convinced me that currently there are only these four the best so far. Here is a brief comparison of the three most wanted ipod/mp3 speakers:
Bose SoundDock Digital Music System: Best sound quality but less perfect bass effect;
Klipsch IGroove: Better bass quality than Bose but sound quality not as good as Bose but is great enough to produce excellent theater effect in your room;
Kensington SX200: For the price, unbeatable! you won't find another of equal quality! Bass is a tiny little bit less great than Bose, but comparable! More reliable than Bose and Klipsch!Slim design! I dropped my on the floor twice and nothing was wrong so far--not even a little static!
Altec Lansing inMotion iM7: Bulky, not as good as the above three!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great gift item (for you or someone else!)...incredible sound!, January 5, 2006

First off, I read a review about these sounding like a laptop's speakers...no way! These speakers are really loud and have excellent bass. I use these for my home office, but also move them to my kitchen and my backyard for parties and when I'm using the hot tub.

That's one thing that's really missing from the other ipod speakers I looked at. Except for Bose and Kensington, they all sound tinny...you know that sound that makes you wince when it is turned up loud.

Not the Kensington speakers. The bass is fantastic, and the overall sound is great. Plus it fits my iPod video and if I ever get the nano or something new, it will fit that too because it has the "universal well". My sister came over for the holidays and had an iPod shuffle, and it has an auxillary input so you can play the shuffle as well.

All around, I am really happy with this. It looks great, sounds great, and is a perfect way to add music to any room in my house.

I like this unit for the price, but was disappointed in the sound quality because I was expecting too much from the reviews. I don't know where all the claims of good sound quality are coming from because it's really not that great. My Altec Lansing inMotion iM7 has much better sound quality and far superior bass (but it costs a lot more). However, I think the sound is "OK" for the size of the unit and because of the price, size, and design, I'm giving it 4 stars. But don't buy this if you want very good/great sound quality. It's just "OK".

I have had my SX 2000 four about four months now, and I use it to listen to my iPod and it also serves (through its auxiliary in port) as the primary speaker for my home computer system. I like the sound a lot, and I think that it has something of a warm sound with a somewhat prominent mid range. It has pretty good bass considering its size, but the high range is not reproduced quite as well as my JBL InConcert. Overall, though, I prefer the sound of the Kensington over the JBL, as it seems somewhat richer and fuller and it projects a nicer sound. I think the Kensington sounds good on a wide range of music from Christmas songs through Celtic music through classical music as well, and it sounds especially good when listening to voice on podcasts. It does charge my iPod, and it can accept input from anything that can connect to it with a mini stereo cable. When I bought it several months ago, it was about $75, and it was a bargain then. At the current price of $49.99 it's an even more remarkable bargain. I'm tempted to buy another one, just in case anything happens to mine.

4.0 out of 5 stars great value for iPod users/music lovers, June 5, 2006

I love this iPod docking system. The speakers are great with very good quality sound - better than our dedicated stereo system. Nice to have my iPod always charged & to have more listening versatility. I would give this a 5-star rating if it had a remote; otherwise, very happy with my purchase.

I also got one for my Dad - easy for him to use with his iPod Shuffle, but he had to get an adaptor (which doesn't allow his player to recharge while he's listening). But he loves the sound & being able to use his iPod other than for his walking exercise.

4.0 out of 5 stars Awesome sound quality., March 14, 2006
This review is from: Kensington 33165 SX 2000 Speakers and Dock for iPod & iPod Nano (Electronics)
Great sound quality for the cost. Be sure to keep the speaker away from the wall 1-2 feet for best sound quality. One negative I have with this unit is it disables the volume control on the I-Pod when it is dock. Example I have a remote control installed on my I-pod, I can change and mute songs, but I can not adjust the volume from the remote.

In all I would buy this unit again

I love this device. Simply put, it frees your music via ease of use & flexibility. It simplifies music: no fuss, no rebooting, no networking issues, no scratched cd's, etc...

You should know these 2 items:
No remote
No bass and luke warm treble: the sound quality is a bit better then an radio alarm clock. Although I have $ thousands $ of high end audio equip, I prefer to listen to my iPod 8G Nano with this Kensington iPod SoundDoc.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for the money, January 12, 2007

The reviews I read said this was a poor choice for $150 - and I agree. But at about $60, I thought it could possibly be better than others I'd heard in the same price range. I was right - it is the best sounding speaker I tested for the money.
I set it up on an office credenza. With it's slim design, it fit great up against the wall. But, it sounded like a horrible early '80s portable radio; Flat! Then I read the instructions about needing to move it away from the wall. With it a foot or more away from the back wall, the sound is MUCH better. Not great, but OK. A flat speaker such as this depends on reflection to provide the depth.
Annoyances: No bass/treble adjustment, volume adjusts to zero every time you turn it on, requires a lot more space than depth measurement indicates.
Positives: good incremental/gradual volume adjustment, fits 30GB video ipod well, matches ipod style, price.
If you want better sound, spend more. If you want background music in a convenience speaker, it's fine.

I'm very happy with the Kensington SX 2000. I listen mostly to jazz and the midrange is as good as the higher end Bose or Apple speaker systems. Pumping up the volume does not distort in any way either. Plus, I have my speaker on a divider that equally services both ends of the open space.

I needed something for work to play my Ipod on, that also charged as it played. The Kensington 33165 Speaker Dock does both very well. It has good sound and is easy to use. The only drawback is that it doesn't have a remote control device, but for me it doesn't matter, bacause I have it placed directly behind me so I can conveniently reach it. You can't go wrong with this product.
