3.0 out of 5 stars great product, but you take a chance on its working
I love this product. It's just what I've been looking for to listen to my audiobooks on mp3, without having to have earphones plugged in. To all appearances, it is quality construction, but the people who assembled the internal electronics must have been on drugs.

I am currently deployed with the US Armed Forces and do not have the freedom to actually have a stereo or extensive speaker arrangement in my current living situation. Because of that, this product has quickly become my new best friend! I consider myself an audiophile, and I was wary about a small, cheaply priced speaker case. However, even at top volume, it delivers surprisingly crisp, robust sound for only having the one small speaker, battery life is much better than I had hoped for, and it serves as a perfect carrying case/protector for my iPod. The case is a perfect size as well, small enough to fit comfortably into a cargo pocket. I honestly cannot find any fault with these speakers, and would highly recommend them for anyone who is an outdoor enthusiast, but can't leave their music behind.

LOVE this product!! Goes with me everywhere. Hiking, biking, beach, camping, etc. Perfect for someone who doesnt ALWAYS want to listen to there music with an ear bud lodged up in there ear canal. Better than others on the market due to the ability to turn the volume down or off on the OUTSIDE of the case. No messin around with opening and closing it.
The sound quality is decent but I think that is to be expected when your paying such a low price. You pay for what you get and I think its perfect for what its intended for.

Never wrote a review before but I felt the Kensington 33388 FX 300 deserved much praise! These speakers give a great clear sound with NO DISTORTION even when the volume is turned up all the way through my MP3 player. My husband, a professional musician with "great ears", is amazed at the CLARITY and it's great to share the music TOGETHER while in any room of our home. I love the durable case which gives great protection to my MP3 player. The speakers do not give a huge, BOOMING sound, but the quality is still lovely.

The Product description and Technical info given are completely accurate (except that battery life is LONGER than 10 hours)!! The price is extremely attractive...very glad I bought these speakers!! Thanks Amazon!!

I love this product. It's just what I've been looking for to listen to my audiobooks on mp3, without having to have earphones plugged in. To all appearances, it is quality construction, but the people who assembled the internal electronics must have been on drugs.

I've ordered 3, and all had a problem with a poorly connected battery wire (you had to tap unit to make it work). Kensignton support has been good though. I think they are away of the assembly problems. They will send you a new unit and tell you to not bother sending back the old one. You can just toss it away they say.

So, be prepared for a dud, but if you get a dud, it will be cheerfully and easily replaced by Kensington without you having to ship back the original.

The unit itself is to my tastes, perfect in design. A nice pocket inside that will hold just about any size mp3 player. A water-resistant outside. A (mono) speaker plenty good quality for audiobooks (which was my purpose).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great portable speaker system, April 1, 2008
By
This review is from: Kensington 33388 FX 300 Speakers To Go for MP3 Players (Electronics)
I purchased the FX300 so I could have a compact portable speaker for my Zune 2 80gb. I thought, "$10, that's not too much to lose if it turns out to be lousy." Well, I got my money's worth and then some. I've spent much more on portable speaker systems that sounded absolutely horrible. I was very impressed with the FX300.

This system is mono, which is to be expected. Why put stereo in a 5 inch enclosure? You wouldn't notice it anyway. In any case, the single speaker is impressive for what it is. I don't know the exact specs, but it is no larger than 2 inches / 5 cm. I tested the frequencies from 50 to 15000 Hz and the response was fine, though frequencies below 100 Hz began to distort a bit.

In any case, this is a great bang for your buck. You get a nice frequency response, decent volume for a AAA battery powered speaker system, and a nice protective case for your music player. While you can't change tracks while the player is in this case, you can still control volume, which is nice. Additionally, the case seems to be fairly water resistant, and I would guess that it floats as well, though I haven't tested that.

I definitely recommend this system if you want a small portable speaker system that can also carry and protect your player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Neat little device, May 29, 2008

I think some of these reviewers need to lower their expectations a bit and read the product description before bashing this. This thing has one speaker and protects your iPod. It is a niche product.

There is no iPod control once it's zipped up. Only volume. Use a playlist!

It runs off AAA batteries and the iPod battery. How can anyone think the sound would be outstanding? On the other hand, I was surprised how loud it was only running off this power source. I have my 5.1 computer speakers, my 5.1 Home Theatre, Ipod dock, in ear headphones, and audiophile cans...now I have convenient and cheap totable music.

*With it's clasp I've hooked it onto a golf bag so I can play music on the green of a deserted golf course with my friends.

*Great way to bring music on a beach.

*Drinking on a patio without worrying about bulky equipment.

Everyone of my friends who has seen wonders what the hell it is before I play, and they all ending up saying it's a neat device. Nice product.

I WAS AMAZED AT THE QUALITY OF SOUND, FOR ONE, VERY THIN SPEAKER. THE HARD CASE PROVIDES GOOD PROTECTION FOR MY MP3 PLAYER AND THE METAL CLIP ALLOWS ME TO FASTEN IT TO MY CLOTHING AND TAKE IT WHEREVER I GO. THIS IS AN IMPRESSIVE DEVICE.

I bought this two years ago for my (now 18 year old) daughter. She's carted it everywhere - on camping trips, to sports events, in the car, on vacation. And it keeps sounding great. The unit is compact, protects her iPod, and works really well. I noticed a review that had a problem with the zipper - we haven't had any such problem - the case has been quite durable. The sound coming out of the speakers is significantly better than what we expected given the price and size of the unit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Does what it's made to do, March 19, 2010
This review is from: Kensington 33388 FX 300 Speakers To Go for MP3 Players (Electronics)
I guess I'm just not as picky as those who give this portable speaker a 1 or 2 star. It's a portable speaker, so I wasn't expecting Dolby surround sound. I think it's got fantastic sound for a little to-go speaker! The volume control works great, but I found I can crank it up a little more by simply adjusting the volume on my device. I also love that I can hook this to my ipod shuffle (which i use for the gym) because I can use the other space inside for other things (cash, credit cards, keys) so I'm just carrying this case.

Bottom line, if you're expecting Dolby, you'll want to buy bigger speakers. If you want to carry your sound with you and not use earphones, this does the job very nicely.

I purchased this for my husband to use and he just loves it. He was really impressed with the quality of the sound and the fact that he can clip this to his belt and take it with him. We would definitely recommend this product.
