If your only computer is a laptop, you need this., March 19, 2005
This review is from: Kensington LAPTOP DESKTOP ( 60140 ) (Personal Computers)
Let's face it: while a laptop computer is convenient, it is also a bit uncomfortable to work on. When you have it at home, you end up elevating and tilting it both for comfort and to help dissipate heat. Often, you attach a standard keyboard and mouse when you're working at home. Once you've done that, you attach a monitor so that, if you have a relatively low work surface, you are not hunched over the screen.
So, after a while, what do you do? To simplify things and get some of the junk off your desk, you start looking at serial replicators and docking stations. The manufacturer of your laptop makes a docking station for about $250. Gulp. You look around some more. Then, you find the Kensington Laptop Desktop for under $40 through Amazon. It's wonderful! Not only did it do everything I wanted it to do for a very reasonable price, but, because it's not laptop specific, when I swap out my current laptop in a couple of years, I won't have to purchase a new, different, expensive, manufacture/model-specific docking station. I love this accessory and so will you.

If you use a laptop but like a real keyboard & mouse check this out!, August 9, 2006
This review is from: Kensington LAPTOP DESKTOP ( 60140 ) (Personal Computers)
Since I travel a fair amount I need a laptop for the portability. But when I'm at my home location I love being able to slide my laptop into my Kensington Laptop Desktop and use a real keyboard and mouse - I can type and click much faster. Since your laptop rests at an angle, the laptop screen is elevated to a much more comfortable reading level. It also allows for a good airflow to dissipate heat from the laptop; something I always had problems with when the laptop was resting on the desktop since I would normally have documents and a notepad laying next to the letter. The black trim with the Kensington logo is actually a clip for holding papers - this was another nice, handy feature.
I checked out as many other laptop desktops or stands as possible before buying this Kensington model. For under $40 this was hard to beat. Most were either brand specific docks and were much more costly, or they just elevated the laptop slightly and didn't allow you to rotate the laptop up to a 45 degree angle (this really helps raise the screen and get it closer; which helps when you have a full size keyboard in front of it). I love this accessory and you can't beat the price!

I love this product, August 23, 2006

I absolutely love this product. I use my laptop both in the lab and at home, so having the Kensington Laptop Desktop makes laptop computing more convenient. I avoided the cost of the higher-priced version with the USB ports by purchasing a USB hub for around $5 (with rebates) and attaching it to the system. I feel like the ergnomonics of my workspace have greatly improved.
