4.0 out of 5 stars Well utilized space, lots of handy pockets, easy to carry on shoulders or by hand
I've had about 4 different laptops and so 4 different laptop bags in the last 6 years and found that a good laptop bag needs to have this:
* Good protection for the laptop
* Good utilization of space - everything should be easy to reach, not like a duffel bag where you can stuff everything
* Enough space to carry a laptop, mouse, power brick, note...

3.0 out of 5 stars The "New" Kensington is a Rip-Off
I had a Kensington Contour 15-inch bag that I loved, but it was pretty worn and the top pocket zipper was kaput. I've had it for 5 years so I ordered another one. Much to my surprise, this was not the same bag shown in the photo. The two dissimilar size front pockets with lots of cool inner organizer pockets was replaced by a single large pocket. Not cool to go cheap,...

I've had about 4 different laptops and so 4 different laptop bags in the last 6 years and found that a good laptop bag needs to have this:
* Good protection for the laptop
* Good utilization of space - everything should be easy to reach, not like a duffel bag where you can stuff everything
* Enough space to carry a laptop, mouse, power brick, note pads, documents, PDA, cell phone, umbrella and other basic accessories
* Easy to hang on the shoulder and by hand.
* Good looks

After all these points, I was in a big dilemma if I should go for a rolling laptop bag or a 'typical' laptop bag. Finally decided against a rolling bag as I felt that it would be too bulky, difficult to lift and carry in times where it is necessary (like when it rains, over stair cases) + it might be difficult to carry it along with another carry-on luggage in international flights. If you are ok with all of these, there is a nice rolling luggage by Wegner (Swiss army) which I had shortlisted - do take a look at that (PATRIOT from Wenger Triple Gusset Rolling Case w/ Removable Tote).

Having decided to go with a 'typical' laptop case - I totally ruled out Samsonites and others after looking at them - they just provide you space to stuff things, nothing else.

This bag - the Kensing contour is very unique, it has all the points which I was looking for + these:
* Front small pocket: The best thing I like is the front pockets where I can keep a power brick and a optical mouse - all these are something which I would need immediate when I put my laptop down + I can keep an umbrella in the same pocket which I can take out if it starts raining.

* Front large pocket: not critical accessories/utilities which we require only after setting up the laptop - I usually keep a cable lock, ear phones, spare spectacles, glue stick, white board markets, pen drive, postage stamps etc - all these in easy to reach compartments, without having to stuff them.

* Rear pocket - this is the pocket which is on the 'countoured' side of the bag, hugs you when you put the bag on your shoulders. There is enough space - but I usually stuff very few things - like a mini external hard drive, network cable and a portal wireless router.

* Heart of the bag - The laptop compartment is well padded to protect your equipment and it is made to fit 15" laptop. Next to the laptop comparment are two compartments for documents - where I keep my documents and notepads.
Here is the best part - I tried keeping my 17" scanner into the document compartment and it easily fits into it - even though I do not intend to carry it like that - it would help me in case if I have to.

* Easy to reach document compartment - Just love this compartment: When you put your bags on your shoulder and walk towards the airline security, you do not want to rummage through your bag/wallet and look for the travel documents - just keep them in this easy to reach compartment, it does have a zipper.
- This is not just for air tickets, but I use it mostly for keeping my company/client ID badges and a short pack of my business cards
* Where Kensington loses a star is in the styling - it looks like a really decent bag, very good indeed. But I would have like it if Kensington has styled it even better. Swiss army/wenger bags are the best in styling).

4.0 out of 5 stars super bag, worth the price, March 8, 2007

The other reviews are accurate - this is a super bag. I researched a lot of bags and settled on this one to replace my old Targus CityLine bag for my Dell M1210. I would just add a couple of notes to what others have said:

First, it's a little heavier in the hand than you might expect, though the handle design helps distribute the weight evenly. BUT once it's on your shoulder, the ergonomic contour design makes it hardly noticeable.

Second, the shoulder strap is well padded and doesn't slip at all. This can actually be a problem if you're wearing a heavy coat, however, as the strap can be a royal pain to remove - no matter what you do, it won't slip off your shoulder. Instead, you have to sort of peel it off. Takes a little getting used to, but this is a minor annoyance compared to the benefits of this case.

Also, I was pleasantly surprised to find that the handy ticket/passport pocket really is convenient when you're traveling. The front pockets are also very convenient. It's a little unfortunate that there aren't any CD sleeves built into the bag, given that it already has more pockets than a levi's factory.

Overall, a fantastic bag that looks good, and is great for travel. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Plenty of Room, Well Made, April 11, 2005

I bought this case for an Acer Aspire because Kensington's website notebook sizer said this case would fit. Well it does, but barely. The laptop fits very snugly so I suggest you go by the measurements instead of what Kensington says. That's the only negative about this bag, which has nothing to do with the quality of the bag itself. This is a well-made, sturdy product that has lots of room and looks good, too. I agree with the first two reviewers except I don't think this bag is unusually heavy compared to similar products. The space for the laptop is well padded and there are two large file-sized compartments next to it. Additionally, there are compartments on both sides of the bag with lots of zippered and unzippered pockets of various sizes. This bag was made to carry a sizeable amount of accessories. It's a nice product!

I really like this bag. It has lots of well-organized space for all my items (including a small purse!). The bag looks good even when full - no bulges - and it doesn't fall over like some bags I've had. Very comfortable to carry by handle or strap. I don't have any problem with the weight. I don't think it needs wheels; it's very ergonomic as is!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Protection, Versatile, but HEAVY, October 27, 2004

This is a great bag. It has lots of pockets, storage areas, and extremely good protection for the laptop. The only downside is that the bag weighs a lot, even before you put the laptop in it. It has ergonomic nested handles and a padded, stretchy shoulder strap which helps, but does not counter, the extreme weight of the bag and laptop together. Needs wheels at this weight.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good and comfortable to carry, but special pockets don't match my needs., November 27, 2009

Easy zipper access to convenient compartments, and the interlocking handle makes it comfortable to carry. It has lots of zippered mesh/net pockets that left me a bit confused: I couldn't find a convenient spot for the power adapter and cord, so I just stuffed them into the main section (that has no net pockets). I think this bag is intended as a briefcase, not a travel bag. It has space for file folders, pens, DVDs, cell phone, etc. I use it as a carry-on bag for overnight travel (with my computer); it was not intended for packing a change of cloths and toiletries, but it works.

I found a great deal on another site, so I bought it from pictures without bothering to try to find it in a store to check it out. Because the bag has so much space, It turned out to be wider than I expected/needed, but if you don't need the laptop sleeve (as I don't) you can just remove it (as I did), and the bag collapses quite a bit, to a much less imposing profile.

The bag has tons of pockets, the main drawback being that you could easily forget where you tucked somewhere and spent a minute or two digging through the many compartments to retrieve it. It does have a dedicated keyring loop, though, so you won't have to go hunting for your keys.

The bag is very comfortable bag to carry because of the contouring on the inner side, the extensive padding all around, and the extremely comfortable shock-absorbing shoulder strap, made of an elastic material that yields to pressure. In addition, the carry handles are molded to fit into each other, making the bag much easier to carry by hand.

The construction also looks excellent, with high-quality nylon, solid hardware, good stitching, etc. It seems to be an excellent bag all around.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect laptop bag, March 25, 2008

This review is from: Kensington 62220 Contour 15.4-Inch Notebook Carrying Case (Personal Computers)
I have a bit of a reputation as a "bag" person. It's not uncommon for me to take up a considerable amount of trunk space when going out of town with separate bags for my clothes, workout clothes, laptop, etc., but I always have one special bag that travels in the front seat or within arms reach in the back seat during all road trips. It's sort of my "emergency/boredom bag" and has been known to carry everything from Tylenol to Sudoku books to a Leatherman.

In the past, this bag has commonly been a backpack, until about a year ago when I upgraded to a leather briefcase, yet still continued to carry my backpack to accommodate whatever excess that would not fit into my briefcase. Needless to say, neither the backpack or the briefcase could completely carry everything, not to mention the inconvenience of digging around in the bottom of the pockets trying to find what I need. Not exactly safe behavior when you're behind the wheel of a car.

I purchased the Kensington 62220 last month after much research and after my leather briefcase was ill equipped to handle the wear and tear from my excessively toting it around. Thus far, the Kensington briefcase has been, by far, the best "bag" I've ever owned. Not only does it have enough room to hold my laptop (Dell Vostro 1400 with 14" widescreen), Bible, laptop mouse, laptop adapter, inhaler, glasses case, Leatherman, MP3 player, small contact lens solution, and assortment of other small necessary items, but it also has several compartments and pockets to keep it all separated so I can find it in a matter of seconds. That's not to mention the ergonomic comfort of the handle and curved back of the bag. I would definitely recommend. I constantly brag about the bag to my wife, who isn't so excited considering that she bought me the worn out leather briefcase as a gift for my new job :)

This is the case you've been looking for. Lots of well designed pockets. The smaller pocket on the top for badges, tickets, passport or phone is really nice. The handles are great. These plastic molded handles really carry the case nicely...they are soooo much better than fabric handles. The curved back is nice, but to be honest I can't say as I feel any ergonomic difference or not. Carries my 13" laptop and peripherals effortlessly. The base, at 8" wide sits up really well and may be the first bag I've had in some time that doesn't want to tip over. I couldn't give this five stars only because it is 1" too tall. If Kensington chopped 1" off the height it would fit better in an airline bin or under the seat. It's ok, you just need to tip it a bit to get it in, then turn upright. All in all, a nice case that has good eye appeal.

After about a month I can say that this bag satisfies all my needs. I moved from a larger wheeled bag, and this on has lots of space and a place for everything. Highly recommended.
