This review is from: Kensington Essentials Kit for Netbooks with Mouse, Lock, and Protective Sleeve (Personal Computers)
Netbook sleeve: Fits my Acer Aspire One D250 very tightly and snugly. It takes a few seconds to get wrap it onto the Netbook. I personally wanted something that I could just quickly "drop" my Netbook into and zip up, purely for speed. However, some will probably prefer this more snug Netbook "skin". Reversible side is gray by the way (may not be completely obvious by the picture. Oh, and some people might be bothered by the butyl rubber smell coming off of it at first (it smells like a new mousepad). Just air it out somewhere and the smell will subside after a bit.Mouse: Insides of this mouse work fine, accuracy at first test is just as good as my Logitech and Microsoft mice, and the buttons respond well. No extra buttons or scroll wheel; this is a very basic laptop mouse, but it works fine. It's "laptop sized" so a bit smaller than a normal mouse. The outside however, feels very cheap, and the scroll wheel will probably collect dirt easily (it's not as raised as some wheels, and I can feel my finger rubbing into the groove between the casing and the wheel). Lock: Easy to reset the combination, and fairly easy to install. You need to shuffle the combination while holding in the button in order to lock it. I'm a little klutzy, so this multitasking was a bit awkward at first, but nothing extreme. The lock itself feels a little "wobbly" when connected to my netbook, but it holds on well (I'm more concerned about me breaking it off with a chunk of Netbook than the lock coming loose). After playing with the lock for a bit, I found that I could "feel" when the first couple correct numbers lock into place. Looking at other laptop lock reviews, I've found that this isn't too uncommon. The good news is that the last 2 digits don't feel any different, so while someone might be able to break the first couple digits, it would take them a while to work out the last two. They could eventually do it by trying all the different combos of the last two, as the lock "pops" immediately when the last digit is entered correctly. Better than some locks though, which are completely breakable in this manner. I feel that this is adequate for protecting my sub-$300 Netbook. If you have a more expensive laptop however, or one that you plan to leave laying around unattended on a regular basis, you might want to spring for a more hardcore lock, or a keyed lock. Overall: It should be noted that I bought this set from Amazon at 70% off retail. At this price, you could easily spend twice that on JUST a lock or a sleeve. If it was a whole lot more, I would probably reduce the rating, or suggest buying higher-quality components separately. At this price however, it's a great bargain.

Sleeve is smaller than expected... a 10 inch netbook may or may not fit depending on model and battery size... but if it does fit it will fit very tight... which can be a good thing or a bad thing depending on how you look at it... on the packaging it says for 7-9 inch netbooks... but it doesnt say this on the ads for anysite that Ive seen this product advertised for sale...so if you have a small netbook or a smaller 10inch one and want it to fit tightly, then this sleeve is great... the sleeve would also fit great on a 7 or 10 inch tablet... maybe not the ipad so much, bc the ipad is more square than it is widescreen size... the actual dimensions are 10 1/4 inch by 7 1/4 inch and it will stretch another 1/4 inch or so in each direction... the lock and the mouse are nice little pieces and work as advertised... got mine on a very good discount with free shipping...so I am happy for that price and will use the sleeve for a future tablet purchase... hope this helps someone out with their purchase...

Although this package may not be perfect, for a price of $15.00 you can't find a better deal. The neoprene case is a little snug, but very stretchy, and looks great. I have never seen a kensington lock for less than $15.00 by itself, never mind as part of a package. Mouse works fine, but my one complaint is that the cord is a little stiff, so when you let go of the mouse it might move around some.

for under $5, i wasn't expecting much from these items... the main reason i bought it was for the laptop lock since im a college student. the 10 in sleeve which came with it was too small for anything except a tablet... the mouse worked fine but definitely not comfortable for long term use, good for travelling though. The lock worked as advertised but again, these things aren't suppose to prevent your laptop from getting stolen, but to defer thieves from trying. overall it was a nice purchase though.

The Kensington Essentials Kit arrived on time, but the original packge was already opened and fixed by tape.So it is most likely a returned item. And the worst of all, the lock does not work! PS: after communicating with OEM Shop, we get fund the second day. Customer service rocks!

The ComboSaver worked several times after resetting the combo, but then failed. 5 minutes out of the box, and dead. Fortunately it wasn't attached to my machine when it did fail; dodged a bullet there. Kensington support determined this was a defective unit. I only went for this lock because it seemed like a deal, but on a side note; the tiny mouse is almost unusable due to the laughably short length of the USB cord.

I ordered this mainly for the lock; it was the best price I could find. I figured the mouse was a nice extra and if the cover fit (it looked too small for my 12inch netbook in the photo) that bonus points. The cover definitely didn't fit my 12in Asus EEE PC, but it would probably fit the smaller 10in size (not having a 10in netbook to test this on, this is my guess). The lock was easy to set and seems pretty standard. I have been pleasantly surprised by the little mouse, which I use all the time now. I gave this 4 stars instead of 5 because the size of the netbook cover wasn't clearly listed (and it didn't fit mine), but overall this seemed like a great buy!

I bought it just for the lock; the lock is adequate, barely, but for under $10 it's worth it. The lock fits LOOSELY into the lock port on my Asus 1215n -- it locks, but it wiggles. It fits better than the $40 Kensington that I returned a couple weeks ago. It will serve primarily as a visual deterrent -- looks to me like a good twist will pull it out of the lock port, or that a hefty pair of pliers will cut the cable. The cable is 6 feet, but because it's coiled, it's functionally shorter than that.I'll use the sleeve for a portable dvd drive; the mouse is the smallest I've ever seen, but it works. All in all, a good value for less than $10. |
