5.0 out of 5 stars Transfers files fast without software but does not Sync them
First off I don't want to be one of those reviewers that gives it a poor rating based on what it can't do.

I was looking for something that would Sync folders together without software and this does not do it.

It does however transfer files fast and painless. You insert the usb into each PC/Mac and a browser window pops up and you can view...

3.0 out of 5 stars Works great, except file date info gets altered
Despite the minimal instructions included with the product, the transfer cable worked great and easily. The file transfer went smoothly from an old PC (Windows 2000Prof) to a new iMac w/ Snow Leopard. The only exception is that the transferred files had "new" dates of the year 2038! - I was hoping to keep the original file dates; the transferred file folder names had...

It does however transfer files fast and painless. You insert the usb into each PC/Mac and a browser window pops up and you can view contents on both pcs/macs. Just drag and drop any files and that's it. Quick and easy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kensington K33906US File Transfer Cable, June 19, 2009

Works fantastic and FAST when copying folders, subfolders with files, small and larger sizes! But both computers must have USB 2.0 ports; will not work if one computer only has a USB 1.0 port. As advertised, all you have to do is plug into both computers - the software is boxed and made part of the cable.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy file transfers between PC and Mac, October 15, 2009

This little gizmo does exactly what it is supposed to do, and made it very easy to share files back and forth between my laptop PC and my iMac. The transfer speed is excellent (in my case seems limited by the slower PC). If you need to move more than a flash drive worth of files, this device is a great way to go.

4.0 out of 5 stars sort on Last Write Time has a flaw, December 17, 2009
This review is from: Kensington K33906US Media Sharing File Transfer Cable for PC and Mac (Personal Computers)
I bought this cable to copy files from one PC to another. Easy to set-up. A reboot of your PC may be required initially.

What I wanted to do was copy newer files from one PC to the other, so I click on the column Last Write Time for both the Connected Computer and the This Computer sections in the window that opens when the cable is connected.

The flaw with the sorting in the Last Write Time is that the date 9/22/2004 is considered "newer" than the date 8/7/2009. And the date 2/23/2004 is sorted to be "newer" than 11/22/2006. How crazy is this???? It appears that the sort is by the very first digit of the month, so a file with the month 9 is "newer" than a file with the month 8 regardless of the *year* of the file.

I haven't found any way to change this. That's why I can't give this product 5 stars.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Invention EVER!, February 10, 2011

LOVE it! Could not be easier to use! Have purchased them as gifts, as well. SO much more convenient for sharing large files than a cd, dvd, or flash drive. Plug and play.

1.0 out of 5 stars Simply . . . does . . .not . . . work, March 28, 2010
This review is from: Kensington K33906US Media Sharing File Transfer Cable for PC and Mac (Personal Computers)
I'm using a laptop and desktop, both running windows xp SP3. I've tried plugging this dog into one, then the other. I've tried switching the cable ends. I've tried using each computer to move files from one to the other. I'm not sure if it can't handle large files or if it's simply junk, but I'm leaning toward the latter conclusion. On plugging it in, a new window opens up showing each computer's file system. Upon trying to drag and drop, you'll sit and wait . . and wait . . . and wait. After 30 min you realize nothing's happening.

It doesn't copy nor does it sync. It just sits. Do yourself a favor. Get a fast flash drive and use it instead.

I was thinking of transferring my files and data from my PC to my new iMac!!! especially all my document files and some photos which were very special to me. I couldn't be happier for buying this product. This product eased my tension by transferring all the required data. All you have to do is to hook up up PC and your iMac and everything is self explanatory!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars Works great, except file date info gets altered, March 4, 2010

This review is from: Kensington K33906US Media Sharing File Transfer Cable for PC and Mac (Personal Computers)
Despite the minimal instructions included with the product, the transfer cable worked great and easily. The file transfer went smoothly from an old PC (Windows 2000Prof) to a new iMac w/ Snow Leopard. The only exception is that the transferred files had "new" dates of the year 2038! - I was hoping to keep the original file dates; the transferred file folder names had new dates of the actual transfer date. Since the new file 2038 dates are not helpful for my uses, I gave the product 3 stars. Also, I noticed some file info either altered or inaccessible on some Photoshop and Canon Zoombrowser files. So, I will be re-transferring the files using an external hard drive instead. Besides the photo files, Word and Excel files were also transferred with the same 2038 date problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXCELLENT PRODUCT AND SELLER!, December 18, 2009

This review is from: Kensington K33906US Media Sharing File Transfer Cable for PC and Mac (Personal Computers)
I was looking to buy the Belkin cable, until I read the reviews, and I came across the Kensington. I ordered this cable on the basis of its rave reviews. To begin with, the cable was shipped free even if the price is only $14.99. To make things better, it arrived 2 days after I ordered it, despite the later promised delivery date and the fact that I ordered it the week before Christmas.

This cable is very easy to use, it is truly plug-and-play. I discovered that it is more convenient and efficient to plug the thicker end into my PC and the USB-only end to my Mac.

When I opened the box, I was aghast that the manual had no words to describe its operation, just pictures! (pretty much how a Mac manual is "written"). So I just followed the illustrations, and indeed, all I needed were the pictures to guide me through how this cable is used. I'm impatient with new stuff and this product was truly idiot-proof (my idiocy gets the better of my when I lose patience).

One of the great features of this product is that it goes on "read-only" mode during transfers to prevent the accidental erasure of your files.

I ordered this unit because it claimed to work for PC to MAC transfer....almost non existent instructions pictured cable being installed in one configuration...no "split screen"...called customer support and spoke w/ "Lou" for about 30 minutes(BTY I think I'll name myself Mahatma next time I call these guys!)...Lou told me to switch the cable...after numerous restarts (and a "switch back") ol'Lou told me it was defective and suggested I return it to "wherever I had gotten it from"...5 stars to Amazon for issuing a refund...oh, yes...I bought the Targus cable for $10 less and it works just fine!
