under powered USB,
This review is from: Kensington K38032US Portable Power Outlet with 3 Wall Outlets and 2 USB Power Ports (Electronics)
I have 2 of these devices, great concept but the two usb charging ports are limited. I tried to charge my Blackberry 8830 and couldn't get enough juice out of them. I believe these two ports are only 1/2 amp where the blackberry needs 1 amp. I also found similar problems trying to charge my GPS unit with this.

This is a great device, very well designed. I've used it a bunch as I have traveled. It's great in airports too - the little bit of cable lets you jam this thing into a crowded outlet, unlike others that are more wall-wart style.
HOWEVER - one big issue with this, something I wish I had known before I bought it, was that it's 110 volt only. Does not work outside the US! It's not just that the USB chargers won't work on 220, but the whole thing will blow the fuse of whatever you plug it into. What a weird oversight, Kensington. I was shocked (har har) to find this out. Bottom line: don't buy if you want to travel internationally!

I like the design and idea of this product, but I did not realize when I bought it, that it would NOT work in a 240v outlet. I was in England, using a plug converter so this would fit their 240v socket and it blew the circuit at the hotel and fried the Kensington Portable Outlet. Had to throw it away.

I do enough traveling that I need one of these. We know that power in Hotel rooms and the outlets can be sub standard. I purchased the Belkin BZ103050vTVL Mini Surge Protector/Dual USB Charger (also available at Amazon.com) and was not as impressed.
While the Kensington is a little more bulky. in practice; it is easier to use. Kensington comes with a small cord that allows it to snug into tight spaces and extent the outlets YOU will be using away from the hotel's clutter. Belkin has trouble fitting into some of those spaces. Those lamps in the hotel rooms the "conveniently" offer outlets are often not as usable with the Belkin as with the Kensington. Overall the extra bulk of the Kensington is worth it for travel. IF you have the type of job that has you just traveling for one office for a few days at a time the Belkin might be a better choice. Ideally I use either one with Power Strip Liberator. Check them out

Don't expect to use a converter on a European plug and expect this to work when you plug this into it. It will just blow the fuses in your converter.

Love it. Purchased for travel, but now also use it at home. The USB ports really come in handy and it is a lifesaver at older hotels without enough outlets.

I've had to return this because it cannot be used with 220 volts. I need it much more abroad in an old building with 1-2 outlets. This is too bad. If you try to use it abroad it will self-destruct.

Low USB power, doesn't travel overseas,
This review is from: Kensington K38032US Portable Power Outlet with 3 Wall Outlets and 2 USB Power Ports (Electronics)
I've been looking for a portable power outlet because I travel with many gadgets. But this outlet was definitely a disappointment for two primary reasons:
- USB is low power - Couldn't power two USB devices at the same time (iPhone and a travel size router), and it also doesn't have enough juice to power and run the iPad. - Not only does it not handle 240v, but it'll blow out the room's fuse *and* render itself useless. A product made for travel that couldn't handle 240v is already counter intuitive, but also taking out the whole room's circuit? Rarely have I seen travel accessories that aren't designed for international travelling. Guess it's my fault for not reading the reviews before making my purchase. My search for a useful travel companion continues...

This little power adapter works great. It is relatively small, so it could fit easily in carry-on luggage. The two USB ports are handy, too.
