I'm long been a fan of Kensington products, they're like the O'reilly animal books for programming: the great product that really fills the niche. 5.0 out of 5 stars Mouse, perfected., October 23, 2008
This review is from: Kensington K72328US ci95 Wireless Mobile Mouse with Nano Receiver (Personal Computers)
I'm long been a fan of Kensington products, they're like the O'reilly animal books for programming: the great product that really fills the niche. So, I was disappointed when I got an earlier wireless mouse from them, on which the receiver was intermittent. They quickly replaced it with a later model, on which the receiver also was weak.

But this time they've really done it. This mouse is terrific! It works at any reasonable range on any machine. The little nano receiver fits right inside the mouse, so I can pack it up, and it's nice and flat, and fits right in my pocket, and I can use it anywhere. The accuracy is amazing and the look and feel is very nice. I've used 100s of mice, maybe 1000s. I think this is the best mouse ever. No software was required at all. The mouse even has an on off switch which not only saves battery life, but slips over the optical laser sensor, so no pocket lint gets inside. This is absolutely the best mouse ever. It's the mouse equivalent of the Kensington Expert mouse trackball, or better, because it's so portable.

I don't know why the other reviewer was having problems, and no I don't work for Kensington, this is just a top notch product. You have to click the mouse button to get it to activate when you plug it into a new machine (not uncommon, maybe this was his problem) Anyway it's a great mouse, and the case is held together with magnets, so it doesn't break apart or lose little plastic snaps. Definitely worth it. This is an awesome mouse.

3.0 out of 5 stars Kensington Ci95m Wireless Mouse - Good Basic Wireless Mouse, December 10, 2008

This review is from: Kensington K72328US ci95 Wireless Mobile Mouse with Nano Receiver (Personal Computers)
The Kensington ci95 Wireless Mobile Mouse with Nano Receiver is a good basic wireless mouse. The price is right and the performance is good enough for most users, though more demanding users may want to step up.

In terms of value, this is definitely a pretty good option, and those with smaller hands should find this mouse comfortable enough. I suppose that is the paradox with wireless mice. On the one hand, they are made to be portable, but their smaller size makes them less comfortable to hold than many wired counterparts. I had a similar experience with the Logitech VX Nano Laser Mouse which started to feel rather small for my hand after a while. The Ci95m is a little longer, so I thought it might fit better in my hand. Alas, it is also flatter. While the flat body makes it slightly more sleek and portable than the Vx Nano, it also feels too flat to be cupped in the hand. So both of these mice have their good and bad qualities, but neither of them really meets my needs 100%. The best quality about both of them is the small nano receiver that barely sticks out of the USB port when installed. That feature makes either of these mice ideal for laptop use though either can be used with a desktop.

DIFFERENCES VS THE VX NANO

PROS:

+ The Ci95m is priced much better than the Vx Nano - Advantage, Ci95m

+ The Ci95m takes two AA batteries and the Vx Nano takes two AAA batteries - Advantage, Ci95m

+ The Ci95m has a flatter design than the Vx Nano that makes it easier to stow and transport - Advantage, Ci95m

+ The Vx Nano feels lighter than the Ci95m - Advantage, Ci95m

+ The tiny receiver works great and can be left in your USB port - DRAW

CONS:

- The Vx Nano has a smoother underside that glides better than the Ci95m - Advantage, Vx Nano

- The Vx Nano includes forward, back and scroll function keys and the Ci95m has only the basics - Advantage, Vx Nano

- The Vx Nano has a much smoother metal scroll wheel with speed scrolling and the Ci95m has a basic plastic scroll wheel that seems to stick - Advantage, Vx Nano

- The Ci95m requires you to remove the top to change the batteries while the Vx Nano has a better compartment on the underside - Advantage, Vx Nano

- The Vx Nano includes a travel pouch, while the Ci95m does not - Advantage, Vx Nano

- The Vx Nano has higher quality rubber side grips that feel better in the hand than the rubber surround of the Ci95m - Advantage, Vx Nano

NEUTRAL

= The Vx Nano has a place to store the nano receiver underneath, while the Ci95m does not - Advantage, Vx Nano, but a small advantage; most people will keep the receiver in their USB port

= Both units feel better suited for those with smaller hands - Draw

CONCLUSION

This is a very good mouse with great qualities. There are other options. If you have a larger budget and can live without the small receiver you may want to look into the Logitech MX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse or the Logitech VX Revolution Cordless Laser Mouse instead. Logitech has been adding to their lineup of mice that use the smaller mini USB receiver. That includes the Logitech V450 Nano Cordless Mouse- Black and the Logitech V550 Cordless Laser Mouse, among others.

Do your research based upon your budget.

Enjoy!

2.0 out of 5 stars Smaller than expected, July 17, 2010

I loved the ci70 mouse. It was a good size for a man's hand. I got over 3 years out of the ci70 mouse. When I looked to replace it, I looked specifically for a similar Kensington mouse. The product description for the ci95 suggests that it has a decent size. Unfortunately, the ci95 is maybe 20% smaller than the ci70, and it doesn't fit as nicely under my palm.

2.0 out of 5 stars Works well if you don't, ever, want to remove the receiver, April 19, 2009

I had no problems with this mouse until I tried to remove the receiver so I could use it with my fathers laptop. The plastic cap pulled right off leaving the actual receiver stuck in my USB port I was eventually able to remove it with tweezers. I snapped the plastic cap back on and eventually returned the receiver to my own laptop. The mouse hasn't been the same since this happened. The quality of the signal seems to have decreased significantly making the mouse very difficult to use.

I bought the Kensington Ci95 because it's the flattest profile mouse I could find. I've tried all shapes and sizes of mice and invariably my wrist gets sore after a couple of hours. No more with the Ci95. I don't need a wristrest either - the flat profile lets me rest my wrist on the desk. I've been using it for months without any pain. I'm writing this review while on Amazon to buy another one as a backup in case Kensington stops making this design.

1.0 out of 5 stars 2 Mice Later and Both Are Defective, May 7, 2010

I purchased 2 of these Kensington mice and found their design ergonomically excellent and the nano receiver was conveniently tucked away on the side of my laptop. However, within a few months, both units began to fall apart. The first problem had to do with the magnets falling off. The front ones were most problematic. Eventually, I ended up losing 2 of the tiny magnets and the case won't stay shut anymore. The second problem was with the switch at the bottom. In the "on" position, the red light appears indicating the mouse will move your cursor. But within months, the red light started to blink and eventually died, rendering the mouse useless. I had to repeatedly turn the device on and off to get the mouse to respond [and yes, the batteries were fresh]. While I'm happy for buyers who gave this product very high marks, I ended up with 2 pieces of crap.

2.0 out of 5 stars So-so design, badly made, July 8, 2009
This review is from: Kensington K72328US ci95 Wireless Mobile Mouse with Nano Receiver (Personal Computers)
I got this partly because I have a wired Kensington mouse that's worked well for years. I like the slim design of the Ci95. It slides easily into a pocket in my backpack. I like the idea of having the top attach with magnets, and the receiver stays inside with its own magnet. Clever.

On the downside, two of the three magnets securing the top fell out within a couple of hours of use. Honestly, the very first day, after only gentle handling. One of them I could glue back in, but the other rolled away and is lost. Makes me wonder about the quality of the rest of the unit.

For that alone I'm returning it, but there's more. The nano receiver isn't really all that "nano"--not only does the black plastic part stick out the side of my laptop, but so does a portion of the metal connector. It sticks out enough that I worry about it getting damaged if I leave it in my laptop (or my laptop's USB being broken by it). That defeats what I thought was the point of a nano receiver: being able to just leave it in the laptop and forget about it.

Worst of all, as far as I'm concerned, is the wheel. The low profile requires a small-diameter wheel, so there isn't much surface for your finger to grip to turn it. If I don't press down on the wheel my finger just slips and the wheel doesn't turn. But if I press down, it's too easy to press it so far it clicks. It takes less pressure to click the wheel than it does to click the mouse buttons--but doing so alters the function. If I'm really, really careful I can get it to scroll without clicking or slipping, but I shouldn't have to waste my concentration on the mouse, should I?

For this price I expect more. (Notice that for about the same money you can get a wireless mouse that includes sideways scrolling, like those from Logitech.) I recommend against buying this product.

I love this mouse. I no longer have to take the USB plug out when I don't use the mouse and take my computer somewhere else... because it's so short that it's not sticking out or anything.

The mouse itself is really comfortable in your hand. I recommend it!

This is my second portable Kensington mouse. This one is very solid feeling, can be easily turned off to save battery life, and the dongle can stay in the USB port even when putting my macbook pro into a laptop sleeve.

I love the form factor. I use a mouse for movement rather than complex customized clicking, so the low profile lets me anchor my wrist and move the mouse precisely with thumb and fourth finger, while clicking/scrolling with index and second fingers. I always found weirdly shaped mice to be, well... weird!

Very nicely thought out product, and if it lasts anywhere near as long as my current Kensington mouse, I will be very satisfied indeed.

After trying at least a dozen corded and wireless mice, I've had the luck to try this one which is by far the best. Besides ergonomics, the mouse is designed to stay plugged in your laptop at all times and has a clever tab at the bottom to turn it off. Highly recommended!
