Like the previous reviewer, I find the keyboard to be nice. I don't really like the material the case is made of. The folio "hinges" are much wider than the thickness of the ipad, so the whole thing seems floppy when closed. Also, I purchased because I thought the sticky backing would allow easy changing from portrait to landscape mode. It does, but when you take the ipad out of the case and close the folio, the sticky pad sticks to the keyboard--not such a big deal, but slightly annoying. As noted by the previous reviewer the keyboard is not removable, and there is no magnetic switch to put your ipad to sleep when you close it. When closed, the keyboard contacts the ipad screen--I know that the glass is harder than the keys and that it shouldn't scratch the screen, it still makes me a bit nervous.

I started looking for a keyboard case as soon as I got the new iPad on release day, but there weren't many to choose from as the device was so new and not all products had yet been tested for compatibility with the new iPad yet. I stumbled across this product and checked it out at Kensington's website. It was only available for pre-order with a wait time listed of 1-2 months.

Well one month later and I checked my wishlist and it was available, and at a welcome discount off the original list price. I just received it about 30 minutes ago.

Pros:

1. Pairing was very fast and easy. Key input is accurate and the feel is similar to a Mac laptop.
2. Cover seems relatively protective. The case extends about 3/4" on each end of the iPd, so this offers some bit of crush zone around the iPad in case of a fall.
3. Sticky pad mounting was very easy and seems pretty secure. I wouldn't turn this upside down and shake it to see if the iPad falls out (probably would), but in normal use it should stay in place.
4. Case perfectly supports about a 30-degree angle and a more upright 80-degree angle; probably the two most usable angles in normal usage.

Cons:

1. Material is a faux suede-like material. Very grippy when rubbing against itself, which I think really helps the case support itself in different angles. It also kind of thin, however, so hopefully it will last with repeated use in the flex areas.
2. Total weight of case + iPad 3 wifi is 2.8lbs. Laaaame.
3. My "Internet" button (looks like a circle globe) doesn't do anything. I assume it is supposed to launch Safari, but it doesn't do anything on mine. I submitted a tech question to kensington about it.
4. No auto Sleep megnet
5. Keyboard touches iPad screen when closed.... Probably not a big deal as I don't think it will scratch the glass or anything, but might be an annoyance for some. I may get a screen protector at some point anyway.
6. Positioning the different angles is somewhat unwieldy due to all the folds in the flap cover. It's sort of like the Apple magic cover where you can fold/roll it up into a triangle. Also, the magnet used to keep the flap closed when the case is closed, seems to stick to itself if you tuck the flap under the case instead of making the triangle shape with it.
7. Heavy, but expected.
8. Can't detach keyboard like some other keyboard cases. No big deal, but it might be nice if you wanted to use it as a case only, as I think the design of the case would allow the cover to close up very tightly versus other removable keyboard cases where removing the keyboard would create a huge gap when closed.

I've tried 2 other keyboard cases for previous iPads and this one is still the best of them, though. Again, not perfect, but what was most important to me was being able to get the angles I wanted, and this one hits the two I need the most: one for typing and one for watching videos/general iPad usage.

EDIT: I ended up returning this keyboard case. I never got any resolution from Kensington support re: the Internet key, and I also decided that trying to make the iPad into a laptop was just plan stupid. It's just not a very capable device to replace a laptop, so I gave up and got a regular case instead. I'll use the ipad for entertainment only, and the macbook air for "work". Read more ›

I had Kensington's iPad1 case which I liked very much. I also have their iPad2 case, which is also very good with a nice, slip-in swivel pocket and holes for the camera. I was looking forward to their latest case for the iPad 3... what a HUGE disappointment. It is basically a cheap wrap. Instead of a sleeve/pocket to hold the iPad, it has a crummy, post-it note style, sticky backing to hold the unit in place. I "stuck" it on and it didn't line up well and the positions were awkward. I also realized it has NO hole for the camera.
It was so chintzy, I didn't even bother to sync the keyboard... just boxed it back up and sent it back.
Thanks to Amazon for their return service.

I have never had an iPad or a keyboard folio before, but I love this Kensington Keyfolio (K39561US).
The keyboard works well, with only the occasional problem of accidentally typing a letter twice. It is much easier to work with than the on-screen keyboard, though you don't have the auto-correct when you are using it. There is a key for switching to the on-screen keyboard when you want it.
The folio is nice. It can be folded into various viewing angles, like the Apple smart cover, and the "micro suction" pad holds the iPad in place either in landscape or portrait. The best part is that I can tuck the keyboard back under the flap and lay the folio almost flat with the iPad facing up when I want to just use the screen. That lets me leave the iPad in the folio almost all of the time. The only times I would have to remove it would be when I wanted to stand it up in portrait mode or when I wanted to use it as a camera. (The camera could be used with the flap folded back, but the keyboard would be annoying hanging there while you are trying to take a picture.)
My only complaint is that the charging cable uses the iPad adapter, so you can't charge the keyboard and the iPad at the same time. Kensington should have included an adapter.

Great Keyboard, but the micro-suction pad quickly loses it's tackiness if you remove the ipad with any regularity. Mine lost all of it's tackiness after a month. I returned to Kensington for:

This product is identical, except that Ipad slides into a slot -- very easy to remove and put back in place. I would highly recommend my replacement product. Just stay away from the micro-suction pad, unless you never plan to remove your Ipad from the folio.
