2.0 out of 5 stars doesn't put out 70W, August 3, 2005
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kensington Lightweight, Slim line 70 Watt AC Mac Notebook and iPod Power Adapter - 33193 (Electronics)
I bought this to have another power brick for my Powerbook.

It is very lightweight and looks nice. However, it does NOT put out the

necessary 65W for a 15" or 17" Powerbook. System Profiler shows it as

a 45W power supply. If all you need is 45W, it is very light and has a

an iPod dock connector charger as well. I should also note that the one

I got had a power tip for the Powerbook that was quite loose -- it had to

be wiggled just right to even get the 45W.

1.0 out of 5 stars not a satisfactory replacement for Apple's AC adapter, September 3, 2005
This review is from: Kensington Lightweight, Slim line 70 Watt AC Mac Notebook and iPod Power Adapter - 33193 (Electronics)
Loosely-fitting adapter tips, insufficient voltage and lack of a battery charging indicator make this model a poor value.

2.0 out of 5 stars An unbelievably expensive piece of brick, July 5, 2006
This review is from: Kensington Lightweight, Slim line 70 Watt AC Mac Notebook and iPod Power Adapter - 33193 (Electronics)
PROS:

1) Comes with a small black carrying case and a velcro strap

2) Exchangable "Smart Tips" for charging in cars, airplanes, wall sockets, and for charging ipods

3) Max. 70W power

CONS:

1) As heavy as the original Apple Power Adapter

2) Uses only 45W (20W less than original Apple Power Adapter) for Powerbooks

3) Expensive

Recently, I accidentally "kicked off" my Powerbook G4 while it was still connected to the original power adapter and it fell 1-2 ft. off my bed and landed on my hardwood floor on the tip of the power adapter and dented the plug as well as the Powerbook Casing. I was able to still power my laptop on since then, but something must have happened two days ago and I lost some pieces inside of the adapter. I ran to COMPUSA as quickly as possible because I cannot live without my Powerbook for more than a day. Anyway, they didn't have any of the original 65W Apple adapters left so I had to buy this one, which cost me over a hundred dollars. Yeah, unbelievable.

My Powerbook's battery was already dead and when I plugged in, it did not power on so I had to take the battery out, put it back in, and then replug the adapter for the Powerbook to turn back on. That was truly ridiculous. I was ready to cry if my Powerbook had not turned on. I didn't realize why that happened until I read the reviews posted before me.

Aesthetically, this adapter is an off-white, not as white as the original Apple Adapter, but it looks clean. It is much longer than the original. I'd estimate the cord to be about 7-10ft. long. Contrary to its name, the Kensington Lightweight, Slim line 70 Watt AC Adapter is NOT lightweight at all. What an oxymoron! It is as heavy or even heavier than the original Apple adapter! Not only that, it is much longer in length (which means it would require more space).

In addition, this adapter does not give 70 Watts of power for my powerbook. I checked with System Profiler and it only charges with 45W, 20W less than the original. No wonder it's been taking so long for a full charge!

However, I do have one good thing to say about this adapter: it comes with a small black carrying case to keep your "smart tips" and adapter in.

All in all, if you need an adapter that can charge in the car, on the air plane, at home (or anywhere with a wall socket), can even charge your ipod, and you're not too impatient about how much power it uses to charge your laptop, then this is the adapter for you.
