I just want people to know that the lock can freeze up. I bought this lock two months ago for my daughter to take to college. After using it just one month, she told me the key wouldn't turn in the lock. I called tech support and they suggested "a lock lubricant", so she got the dorm maintenance man to come up to her room with some WD-40. (the computer was locked to her desk) The can has a little straw attached to the nozzle, so you don't have to worry about getting oily spray all over the computer. She let the oil sit for about 10 minutes, and then the key worked the lock just fine. I just thought I'd let y'all know in case it ever happens to you. It's an easy fix.

I purchased this lock for an Asus EEE 901. It works OK, but the lock cylinder doesn't go far enough along the lock mechanism at the laptop end, resulting in it jiggling around. It is still successfully secured, but it LOOKS flimsy - not at all like the Microsaver (non-DS) that I also own. I mainly got this lock because I didn't want two keys that looked the same on my keychain, but I wish that this lock fit into the computer as well as the non-DS lock does (I use that one for a different laptop).Still, it works fine and that's what matters.

Kensington MicroSaver Lock,

Used this product on a cruise late August 2010 to secure MacBook Pro (mid 2010) to a desk in our cabin. Picture is included above in "customer images." It takes a while to insert end into the Mac as one must align a few items on the locking end of the cable. Once attached and locked, the head of the locking unit rotates a full 360 degrees to enable SuperDrive use. The cable appears to be sturdy and key can be easily carried or concealed once removed from locking unit. Cable cutters are unlikely to be allowed through embarkation security, but the correct "industrial strength" tool could probably cut the cable. It IS a deterrent to snatch and run thieves, however, which, while passing our cabin, could take but a few steps to get to the computer while the cabin steward was distracted.

Great lock; perfect for HP ENVY,

This is a great lock. I found it perfect for HP ENVY. The fit is perfect for the HP ENVY. The lock does not fit too snug, unlike previous models which is good, as it does not disfigure or damage the finish of your laptop or the kensington lock slot, rendering the entire set up useless for your laptop. The key design is great too to provide maximum protection; you find the same kind of technology used on the lock as the higher end and expensive Kryptonite locks. And as always it helps to lubricate your lock every now and then; a squirt of WD - 40 does the trick. I also found this model to work with my macbook pro unibody just as well as with my HP ENVY. There is space to spare for the disc drive aswell! And like said above, the lock design does not mar the finish, which is another win!

When I read all the reviews I was really skeptical but decided to take the chance and glad I did. The picture of the lock is out dated. The lock now has a bar to either side of the T-bar so the barrel doesn't spin when locked in to the computer. The barrel can spin so therefore there is more configurations beside the 90 degree movement of the cable. I can see why other reviewers had a difficult time with their lock, they may have the old lock that is pictured. The lock fit perfectly and has a rubber pad to prevent scratching to the soft aluminum body of the MBP. The cable is flexible but will spring back to a straight cord when given the chance so be careful, it might hit/knock over something important. As another had suggested, I wish it came with a carry pouch and as the price being $40 it is sorta steep but according to Kensington this lock has their highest safety rating compared to the lock with the round keys. Make sure you have the lastest lock when it gets mailed to you, it should have the bars on the side of the T-bar and a rubber piece.

I use this lock at work everyday. I leave the lock on my desk and bring my laptop in, lock it in the morning and unlock it so I can bring it home at night. The lock looks fine and is easily hidden. The length is more than enough for me. I have had no problems with the key or locking mechanism and would happily recommend this lock.

On receiving this product, I tested it out on my MacBook pro without attaching it to anything, which I strongly recommend. After spending several minutes trying to lock it, I finally got it attached. Then I spent a good 15 minutes trying to remove it, frustratingly turning the key every which way to get it out. When I got it out, I noticed that the efforts had scratched my computer. Thinking perhaps now that I knew how to get it out, I would be able to do it again, I gave the lock a second chance, but this time it was stuck even longer.Unless you have a lot of time on your hands every time you want to lock/unlock your computer and don't mind scratches, I definitely do not recommend this product. I put it back in the box an hour after getting it.

My first lock worked just fine for the first month of overseas travel. Then, it locked up with the key in it spontaneously while I was in the hotel room and could not remove the key from the lock or the lock from my laptop. This could have been disastrous and would have required cable cutters if it had not been for the fact that upon extensive wiggling, I was able to wriggle the locking mechanism out of the slot in my laptop while the lock was still engaged. This was in an Asus U30JC laptop. This shows that, 1) the key tends to stick in the lock resulting in the lock getting stuck in the laptop and, 2) the lock can be removed from some laptops even when locked with some coercion. After this happened, Kensington kindly sent me a replacement lock. However, after a short time the key again became stuck in the lock and the security cable had to be destroyed to remove it. I believe there is a design flaw with this particular lock since in both cases the lock was not tampered with and the exact directions that came with it were followed. Thus, I strongly caution against using this lock unless you have industrial cable cutters at your disposal!

I've had two of these locks get the key stuck within a few months of use. Both times i've had to struggle to get them free of my laptop, but managed.Once it happens though, i've been unable to get the key loose from the lock. I'm lucky they weren't stuck to the laptop for good. Never, never again.
