Planned obsolescence?, January 3, 2007
This review is from: Kensington Universal Auto/Air AC Adapter for Macintosh Notebooks (33079) (Electronics)
I have the same problem - the tip of my Kensington adapter has failed. I'm more than a bit skeptical of Kensington's design seeing as there are apparently no moveable parts inside and the connections that failed are encased in half an inch of plastic. And now, 18 months after I bought the adapter, Kensington is selling a new, "improved" version with incompatible tips. Is this planned obsolescence? It is a plausible conclusion to draw, at least.

Can't get replacement parts, March 14, 2006
This review is from: Kensington Universal Auto/Air AC Adapter for Macintosh Notebooks (33079) (Electronics)
I was happy with this product until I tried to replace my damaged tip. You'd think that with an item that came in so many pieces this would be a simple thing to buy. But the tips I found for sale said they weren't available yet and I wasn't even sure they would fit this exact product.
SO, I sent a message to Kensington support. After giving them every bit of information I had - and I had the original packaging material and manual - they said they'd send me a tip (no charge) Over a month later I let them know I hadn't received anything and they apologized and Fed Ex'd me the wrong tip. I tried to tell them this, but my message bounced and there was no paperwork in the Fed Ex pack. A week later I received a second one - also with no paperwork. So now I have two tips that don't fit the adaptor. (the problem is that they switched the design. The tip fits into my PowerBook, but does not fit their product (it's a different shape and pin count)
Part of what I sent them:
"KENSINGTON AC/AUTO/AIR ADAPTER (T9178LL/A)
(that's from the paper work that came with the adaptor)
K33079 Is the "model number from the adaptor.
In addition to information on my powerbook

Good product and helpful customer support, September 17, 2005

Works better than the powersupply from Apple. I used this charger
in Europe (France) with only a adaptor (i.e. no transformer needed). The product came with the correct adaptor for my Titanium Powerbook G4 (400 MHz).

This sucks, January 10, 2006
This review is from: Kensington Universal Auto/Air AC Adapter for Macintosh Notebooks (33079) (Electronics)
This product sounds great but it just is not. There are two tips with no direction on which to use with my notebook, yet there is a warning that if I insert the wrong tip into my charger input I may ruin my input. The car charger sounded great but once again, those pesky little tips were involved making for an unstable connection system if I had known which plug to use. The upside is that I was able to return it since the seller could not find any instructions on which tip went with which processor. Bad product but good outcome due to seller being upstanding and excellent. Go for the McAlly @ 1/2 the cost and ease of use. G. Armstrong
