Comfortable, but 2 issues,
By

The unique design brought me to buying the mouse. It is much more comfortable and you can avoid cramping your hands like many of the notebook wireless mice out there. You can just keep your palm flat. Battery life is great and the receiver and mouse itself stow nicely in a travel bag.
Two issues though: --The rubber applique is peeling/deteriorating after several months use. --The right-click button clicks but doesn't send a signal once in about 50 clicks.

If there's one thing I've learned shopping for a mouse, it's that there is no such thing as a perfect mouse. It all comes down to intended usage, and prioritizing what matters to you. This one, which I bought after agonizing over the choice, turned out to be pretty good for my purposes. I needed a replacement for my iMac Mighty Mouse (which was far from mighty). I just needed something basic - right and left buttons, middle scroll, and Mac compatible. I found it in the Kensington. I've had this mouse for several weeks, and I have used it for at least 4 hours a day. It tracks pretty well,has a shape and size that isn't too different from the Mighty Mouse I'm used to, and no software has been needed. It is not perfect, but it does the job I bought it for. But to be as complete as possible, here are the issues I have found;
1. I can feel that the rubber sides, which numerous others have complained about, are going to be an issue in the future. The warmth and dampness of my fingers after hours of use make it feel funny. 2. I wish the usb dongle was a bit shorter. My port is on the right side of the keyboard and I keep bumping into it with the mouse! LOL 3. I'm not fond of the Drag and Drop action. It's not very accurate and requires trial and error to drop things in the right place. 4. Once in a while, the mouse does miss a click or or two, but not more than my Mighty Mouse every did. To address issues I have read about this mouse; The scroll wheel is the clicky, bumpy kind. I don't mind it but some people want a smooth roller with smooth scrolling on-screen. If that's a high priority for you, this is not the right mouse for you. The size of the mouse is not really a laptop mouse (which I'm glad about). It's flat, but long. Ideal if you miss the days when a full size mouse was easy to find. Also, it's much lighter than the Mighty Mouse, making it easier to move around. Maybe that's why some think the tracking is too fast. Too much muscling. The mouse has a sleep feature, and many hate that because you have to click to wake it up. I right click to avoid clicking stuff I don't want to in the process. Never had a problem. Overall, the mouse is doing it's job well, I recommend it to anyone who needs a basic mouse that's plug-and-go. Will it last? Only time will tell. But for now, I'm happy.

An outstanding Mouse!,

I just recently purchased this product from a major tech chain and after seeing customer reviews from other on-line stores, this one seemed like the "best buy." I must say, I am very impressed with the overall look, feel, and design of this little gadget. Easy to use and even easier to pull out and store the wireless receiver in the base for easy transport. I also enjoyed the modern design and feel of the mouse in my hand. The performance is great and the mouse moves almost too easily across the screen! Overall, I would highly recommend this product!

[Note: the price has tripled since the following review. Nevertheless, it replaces my Apple mouse, which is corded and goes for twice the current price of the Kensington. Also, even when set at its "slowest" position, this mouse is a tad quick and jumpy compared to the Apple mouse.]
I'm almost hesitant to sing this gizmo's praises because once the secret's out I may be hard-pressed to get another one just like it (especially at its current price). I sensed that a mouse would make things easier while using a MacBook. I wasn't even in the market for a wireless, but the price was right, so why not give it a whirl? Now I'm the one who's slightly giddy after discovering how effective and "instant" (didn't as much as glance at instructions) a mouse can be (this is my first wireless). There's always going to be that "Mac-compatibility" question, but it appears to be a non-issue with this device. I tried it on my desktop computer (an iMac), and it's the same story: instant recognition and full functionality of all features. Besides eliminating the cord clutter, I've been able to free up a USB port on my keyboard for other uses, such as an iPod. The mouse is working great with the receiver installed in a 7-port usb hub. My wife, who is experienced with these creatures, tells me this one is superior because of how easily and cleverly the receiver attaches to its underside for convenient one-piece transporting. Whatever the reason--consumers' distaste for the color "Titanium"? (maybe Kensington should go back to calling it "gold")--this one is priced at a steep discount compared to the identical model in black. In fact, at these prices you can afford to misplace a mouse or 2 (the main downside of a wireless) and simply carry a spare.

I'm always concerned with any new hardware for my Vista PC since Vista is notorious for compatibility issues. But this mouse was a snap. Insert the batteries, plug in the usb "receiver", and they "find" each other, without any additional software to install. You can make a few personal adjustments through the "mouse" feature in Control Panel, like scroll wheel use etc, but even thats not really critical.
I did find that when the computer has been inactive for a while, its necessary to click the mouse's left button to reactivate the mouse -- its instantaneous, but at first I thought there was a problem, as I thought the mouse was frozen -- it wasnt....just another of those computer mysteries that mere mortals will never understand. I like the feel of the mouse -- its pretty flat, rather than humped like the usual pc mouse. There is non-slip edging around the exterior of the mouse, so its easy to grip...all in all, a nice item that I hope will last a long time.

Great mouse, but -1 Star for strange problem,

I agree with the other reviewers here, this mouse is wonderful.
It feels great and has a great design. I love how I can store the usb stick in the mouse itself when I have to travel. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because of a strange problem, that one would come across if the mouse were to get a LOT of use. I am a graphic designer so I am clicking away on this thing 10-12 hours a day. There is a 'rubber cushion' that wraps around the entire mouse. It is what your thumb and pinky finger grips while you hold it. After extended use, the rubber points where my thumb and pinky grip on have started to flatten out, which is causing the rubber to spill out of the crevice it was stuffed into. This isn't a problem at all and does not effect the mouse's functionality, but it looks gnarly and bothers me. The best comparison I can think of is if you have lose skin near your fingernails, wouldn't you like to trim it off? That is basically what I do with my mouse now. I have been using an x-acto blade to carefully remove the excess rubber that has been pushed out by my thumb and pinky finger. This is a great mouse, I just wish I didn't have to trim rubber off of it every few weeks.

Love this mouse, it has a great feel if you have larger hands, the low profile on the desktop makes it very easy to use. The thing I like the best is the fact that it shuts off after a period of non-use. I never have to switch it off when I go home. The only thing you have to remember is to click or spin the wheel when you first start using it.

Had two, both lasted about a year,

I think I bought my first one two years ago. A year later, it began double clicking when I only wanted to single click, this became a real problem. Kensington fortunately has a five year warranty on them and sent a replacement quickly. Now, less than a year later, the optical sensor goes out. I don't know if it's bad contact with the batteries, but I have to shake it and bang it to get it to work again. Sometimes I have to do it frequently. I keep the battery cover off so that I can roll them around at any time. I may claim another one on warranty, but I'll use it as a back up for another brand I buy to use as my primary. I would give them more stars for the warranty coverage, but being that I've had two go bad on me...

It's good for you to use simply and bring anywhere - its body is very low. The pointer senser is not bad. It's pretty good. But its body is a little bigger than I think about that. |
