Book Description

April 3, 2012
Beautiful Clover Sherwood never expected such a cruel fate. Her father's death has left her penniless, ostracized from Pennsylvania society, and abandoned by her fiance. All she has now is a grieving mother, two hungry little brothers and no prospects...until a wealthy Kentucky backwoodsman with a deep Scottish burr comes to town - and inspires her to make a most daring move...It's no secret that rugged, roughhewn Scotsman, Ballard MacGregor is ready to marry. Nonetheless, he is surprised by genteel Clover's sudden proposal...and more than pleased. For the lass' sweet innocence is bewitching. But settlement life proves harsh on his refined young wife. And Ballard fears that unless he can awaken her passion and win her love - as she has won his - he may lose his Kentucky bride...

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful Romance Novel, December 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kentucky Bride (Paperback)
Hannah Howell never seizes to grab your attention from the very first page to very last sentence. Her dive into a western novel from her many Scottish Novels was a pleasant surprise, of course who can resist in the MacGregor Scottish taste in it, either!

The books starts of with a young lady who has been jilted by her fiance. With her family in financial woes she makes a gutsy move and proposes to a rough woodsman gentleman who saves her from the clutches of a few unruly men with unspeakable motives. The woodsman ends up being jilted by his soon-to-be fiance who he finds with the young lady's previous suitor.

This book goes from a beautiful suburb to the rough woods of a young Kentucky. A definite must have for those who enjoy romance novels with twists and, of course, those who enjoy Hannah Howell!

4.0 out of 5 stars Not Hannah's Best, May 23, 2010
This review is from: Kentucky Bride (Paperback)
I have always loved books by Hannah Howell and although this story didn't take place in Scotland, as many of her stories do, I thought the fact that she'd written it was enough promise. The storyline is good: Clover Sherwood has found herself in dire straights after her father has committed suicide, left her to care for her mother and two young brothers, and her fiance has dumped her now that she is broke. She takes drastic measures and proposes to a Scottish frontiersman she has just met to ensure her family's future and the results are adventure, intrigue and romance. However, as much as I did enjoy the story, I also felt that it lacked the steamy romance normally found in Howell's books. I also thought so much more could have been done with this plot, but the overall results still made for a decent read. I'd recommend Kentucky Bride as a book to just in escape into for a little while, but don't worry about not being able to put it down.

4.0 out of 5 stars So glad I finally decided to read this book!, January 19, 2011
This review is from: Kentucky Bride (Paperback)
I wish books like this were written more often! Such a nice change of pace from the regency historical romances that are churned out today! I wish more authors would go back to writing great Americana romances like this one!
