red hot history,

This review is from: Kentucky Woman (Paperback)
The product discription tells what is on the back of the book. It does not however, tell about the times you will need a fan or you will laugh histerically at Jessie and Billie's antics. And it definitely does not tell you how many tears you will cry as you fall under the spell that Amber Carlton weaves around your heart. This is the first book I have read by this author but she is definitely added to my automatic buy list along with Maya Banks and Lora Leigh!!

Good writing and Good Story,

I've always believed that a great erotica romance will never compromise on how it's written, how the story flows, and how exciting the book is. This book captures all three.
I wanted to read this book because I had discovered the synopsis for its sequel, "Buckskins and Brocade". I was intrigued to read that this book,"Kentucky Woman", was set during the Civil War and the heroine was part of the Underground Railroad. This is one of my favorite times in American History to read so that combined with a menage love story was a perfect choice for me. And I was very happy with this book! I do not like spending money on writers that I've not tested before, but I was very pleased that this book more than delivered. Let me list the positives that I found with this book: 1) The action started from page one and never let up. 2) The heroine, Jessie, was a firecracker that held her own. 3) The sex scenes are very well written and very hot. 4) The heroes are great guys- Cutter is a great alpha male and Billy a funny and loveable beta. They offset each other perfectly. 5) The story was interesting 6) And above all...this was so well written! With that said, there were two very small flaws. One was how Ms. Carlton has a tendency not to describe the description of the background characters and the scene taking place. I must point out this does not hinder the story, but in the back of my mind I kept wondering stuff like "What does Caleb look like?" The second little flaw was the relationship between Cutter and Billy. At first you think they are best friends, have worked with each other for years, etc etc. Through the course of the book we find that they have only known each other a short time and really don't know much of each other's background. This kinda threw me since these men share Jessie and both fall in love with her, especially Cutter accepting another man to be with the woman he loves. But Ms. Carlton writes so well, and Billy is so funny, that pretty soon this little item just disappears. Overall, this was a fantastic 1st book and I am looking forward to the sequel. I'm not so hesitant now to spend the money and buy another book by Ms. Carlton.

This book was okay. Not bad, but I just couldn't find the heroine believable and for some reason found myself not enjoying reading about her. This was really disappointing since I got the book based on the previous 5 star rating. The heroes were okay, too. I didn't find myself attracted to their personalities in the story. I think the sex scenes were pretty Hot but since I couldn't get into the characters and I can't remember the plot much I found this book average. I think if you like ménage romances set in historical times around the Civil War you would find this book interesting but I just couldn't get into it. Since this book costs a lot I would probably recommend trying the ebook version first. I wish I had.

Dull, and slow plot,

The main characters could be interesting, if the writing were better. As it is the male leads are shallow, and boring. The story had an interesting premise, but wasn't worth reading. If you want smut with little emotion, this should work. If you're looking for character depth, find a different book. The sex does not fit well in the plot, and reads like a very bad porn flick.

Plot:
When Jessie's father unexpectedly dies, his slaves are sold to an unscrupulous man. Jessie sets out to save them with the help of Billy and Cutter and lots of hot sex. Comments: - Historical romance with explicit menage sex. - 5179 kindle locations, 79,500 words. - Sex is all m/f/m - explicit, reasonably frequent, loving, varied. Aiming for a committed threesome. - While "Kentucky Woman" is entirely complete, it does have a sequel. Buckskins and Brocade gives the story of Jessie's daughter Olivia, her own government assignment, and hot menage with twin brothers. - "Kentucky Woman" is set during the American Civil War and deals with slavery, freedom, the Underground Railroad and the effects of the Civil War on both the survivors and the people left behind. Extremely well done. - There is a "surgery" scene in a barn that is not for the faint of heart. Opinion: "Kentucky Woman" goes on my highly recommended list. A surprising historical ménage story set during The American Civil War, we have hot sex, strong characters and a rivetting story from a excellent writer. There really is not much to dislike about this book. Our heroes have depth, the historical aspects pretty accurate and the sex steamy and realistic. Get this one. Definitely worth it. -CR-

I love it when I get to read a full-bodied story in the erotic genre. Throw in a plot that showcases a pivotal era in our history - the underground railroad in this case; suspense that can make your heart pound; in-depth characterization of our Heroes and Heroine; secondary characters that add color and round out the world the author is creating; a villain that is vanquished; and a pacing that keeps you turning the pages long into the night, and you have a winner. I'll be looking forward to more from Ms. Carlton.
