I got my Kenwood Major as a gift from my husband in about 2000. I've used it a few times a month since then. Here's what I like about it:

*It's easy to use. No settings. No touch controls. Flip the lock to lift the head up and down and twist the dial for beater speed. That's it. *It's incredibly strong - maybe the biggest motor on the home market, at 800 watts. I haven't found a dough that it can't handle. *The bowl locks in place with an easy twist. *The matte finish looks new after 14 years. I wipe it carefully after each use.

Here's what I'm not so crazy about:

*It's not always easy or intuitive to get the beaters to lock in place. Eventually they do, but it's not obvious how it's done. *The bowl is quite narrow and even with the hinged plastic cover with spout, adding ingredients is an iffy thing. You have to stop the beaters and lift the head to have room to add anything more than an egg or some liquid. *The bowl doesn't have a handle.

The biggest problem I've had is service. It needed repair about 7 years ago and I was fortunate to find a repair place where I could send it. I shipped it on a Monday with a check for $75, and had it back, fixed, on Thursday. That's no longer the case. It's an English marque and their service network is hurting. I need to send it in again and there's now only one place in the entire US that repair them.
