Customize the unit's front panel illumination with the new variable illumination palette of colors--match your interior tones, dash lighting, or whatever tickles your fancy.
Enjoy Your Favorite Media
The DDX512 lets you play your favorite CDs and DVDs, along with several digital audio and video formats.
The unit accepts DVD, DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, CD, CD-R/RW, VCD and CD-DA discs. It plays back AAC-LC, MP3 and WMA audio files; MPEG1 and MPEG2 video files; and can display JPG images. Throw your files on a disc or a USB device and you're all set to enjoy them in your vehicle.
You can also listen to the AM/FM radio. Use Auto Memory to automatically add stations with good reception to presets, or enter them manually. The DDX512 also displays FM radio text when available, traffic information, and allows you to enter station names.
Seamless Connection with iPod Video/Audio
Connect an iPod using the optional KCA-iP300V cable to enable full video (for iPods with video capability) and/or audio control. You'll supply power to your iPod as well as charge it while you enjoy your music.
USB Direct Control
You can enjoy your favorite music, video or images from USB devices like flash drives or MP3 players. When connecting a USB device, playback starts automatically. When a battery-powered USB device like an MP3 player is connected to this unit, it also gets a charge, so it's ready to go with you when you exit the vehicle.
Input and Output
In addition to the iPod and USB support, you can use the DDX512's front auxiliary A/V input to connect external audio/video sources like video game systems.
The unit also features an A/V output for sending content to an additional screen in the vehicle.
For audio output, the DDX512 has 2 sets of 2V RCA preamp outputs for system expansion (this in addition to the on-board 50W x 4 amplifier).
Bluetooth Ready
Add the optional KCA-BT200 to enjoy hands-free phone operation or to listen to audio stored on Bluetooth devices.
Navigation Ready
Add the KNA-G510 for a full GPS navigation package. Equipped with the latest Garmin navigation technology, the KNA-G510 includes advanced mapping of the U.S. and Canada and over 6 million points of interest right at your fingertips! The KNA-G510 is ready for XM Live Traffic feeds. Simply add the XM chip set tuner, subscribe to XM radio and receive constant traffic and weather conditions with continuous, real-time updates--24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
HD and SAT Radio Ready
The DDX512 allows you to enjoy SIRIUS (requires CA-SR20V + Sirius SC-C1 Tuner) or XM (requires KCA-XM100V + XM Mini Tuner) radio in your vehicle. Enjoy a multitude of channels featuring music, news, talk shows, sports and traffic information with CD quality sound.
You can also add an HD Radio tuner. When you connect an HD Radio, Tuner features of the unit are disabled and changed to HD Radio tuner features.

I bought this to replace the stock head in my 2008 Caliber SRT4. What a difference. Coupling this with Polk Audio 6x9s all the way around + a 10" Sub and 200 watt amp made for a killer sound system in this little car.

this is a great all around unit
i had to upgrade after my stock headunit took a dump and couldn't be happier with my choice the earlier complaints about this deck have now been solved and all you have to do is visit kenwoods website to get the latest updates installed (Real easy) and if your using a rear sub via the sub out connection you will have to contact kennwoods customer support # to get them to walk you thur the process. btw calling and getting a kenwood tech is REAL easy and they are more then happy to help you. i called 3 times about different questions and got the answers every time, with little to no waiting on hold. (thank you kenwood) the deck is fully upgradeable down the road so if you decide to add navi, satellite radio, bluetooth or hd radio ect. your covered no problem. if your wanting to use your ipod or iphone with the new update and the use of KENWOODs KCA-IP301V cable you will be able to control your ipod thru the deck seamlessly i am currently able to control my iphone 3g with no problems. (Video music podcasts .ect) so if your looking for the basics with the option to upgrade you'd be goofy not to seriously consider the DDX-512

Purchased as a replacement for factory DD radio, great head unit- It can be upgraded to all the stuff you exactly want. It plays DVDs, no issues viewing, great sound quality with the Alpine components, Have the navigation love it to - just wish you could here the radio but I guess if you need directions your focuse should be there not the music, Radio is as weak as the factory radio so no change there but good news you can always upgrade to sat. or HD radio- so for the price its a great head unit with even greater potential with all the upgrades you could ever want.
Easy install- took about 15 minutes, the nav unit took longer due to running/ hiding the wires, but all turned out seemless.
