5.0 out of 5 stars Kenwood Free Talk Radio Quality, November 3, 2000

This review is from: Kenwood FreeTalk UBZ-LH14 2-Mile 14-Channel FRS Two-Way Radio (Black) (Electronics)
I purchased two of these radios for my son, I am not able to walk very well and he felt they would be useful when he and his wife took me places to save me some steps. He has been a long time user of Kenwood communication products, and searched for some time before finding anyone that had any in stock. After receiving the radios from Amazon.com he understood why they were hard to find. He was very pleased to find that the Kenwood quality he was used to was made into these small radios. The Kenwood UBZ-LH14 has many feature not found in other brands of family radios such as,in range, voice scrambler, and power saver to list only a few. The Kenwood UBZ-LH14 is slightly more difficult to operate than some others due to the many options it offers, and it is helpful if you have some knowledge of operating electronics to make full use of all the features it has. I give the radio five stars for the quality of the product, number of features and the amazingly low price that Amazon.com has offered the radio for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Move over Motorola., October 6, 2000

I've used the lower end VTechs and the Motorola-FRS series, which are fine products. But these Kenwoods seem to run longer and thus extends battery life substantially. All the FRS use the same freq so you can talk to your Motorola buddies; but the quality on these puppies can't be beat. 5 stars (actually 4.8)!! Don

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best radios out there, December 31, 2001

I bought about 7 different models of FRS radios. This particular Kenwood model is about the best you can get. It has good range, excellent voice clarity, good ease of use, good battery life.

That said, NONE of the consumer FRS radios has really loud sound. So, if you're at a noisy event (sports, etc.) you'll have a tough time communicating.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2 way radio review, June 14, 2001
I like the way the Kenwood radio feels, it is a good weight, and the ergonomics are good. They have good range and a lot of nice features, like the out of range indicator. The only drawback to the Kenwood is that not many places sell accessories for it. The Motorola radios have many accessories and you can buy them almost anywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Solid Radio for most needs, January 2, 2004
By A Customer
This is a good radio, as I have used it for the past year. Solid range, though it won't do two miles unless it is line of sight. I like the privacy settings. I was in Hawaii...and this radio is water resistant and was able to survive getting dunked a few times. Gaskets on the batter compartment, etc. Not too many frills, but works well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kenwood FRS, April 20, 2003

We use 10 of these units for communications for swim meets between the starter, judges, bull pen and computer operations. We are very pleased with the performance and also like the "scramble" feature since we are using in a foreign country.

5.0 out of 5 stars Has a feature you don't get w/others at comparable price, August 25, 2000

The Free Talk indicates when the other party has wandered out of range. Great feature when trying to keep up with your teenager at the mall. And I like the programmable options -- makes it much more vesitile than others

5.0 out of 5 stars Still a Kenwood radio fan after 30 years, August 3, 2005
This review is from: Kenwood FreeTalk UBZ-LH14 2-Mile 14-Channel FRS Two-Way Radio (Black) (Electronics)
I used this radio with HMC3 headset at a recent Adams Co. Irish Festival. (I was in charge of parking among other duties.) It worked perfectly. I chose Kenwood based on my experience with their Amateur ("Ham") Radio products over the past 30 years.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than expected - Kenwood comes through, September 10, 2003

I was looking for a versatile, durable, and dependable FRS radio for when I go camping or fishing and this is it. The sound is very clear and there are many built-it options that can be changed by the user. Most of these options are for if you have two or more of these units - which would be the ideal case. But if you want just one great FRS radio, make it this one. I bought mine through DealCat.com and was very satisfied.
