Power Mono Amp,
By DJ Chinchilla (PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Kenwood KAC-9104D 1800-Watt Max Power 1 ohm Capability Class D Mono Power Amplifier with Variable LPF (Electronics)
This amp when bench tested at a 2 ohm configuration puts out about 600 real watts. If you know anything about car stereos, this REAL wattage is the only thing that matters, not what the amp manufacturers claim wattage to be. This amp doesnt get hot, and is a serious performer for the money. Class D means it is extremely efficient, and its a mono subwoofer amplifier. For those of you with small 4 cylinder engines and small alternators, yes your headlights will dim no matter what amp you put in there. Get a capacitor if you have a 4 cylinder motor. I have an S10 with a 4.3L V6, stock alternator rated at 110 Amps, and my headlights do not dim. I dont have a capacitor. This amp slams whatever is connected to it. For the money, you can not beat this amp.

I have this amp paired with an Alpine R12 (4 ohm), and it is amazing. With the gain over 3/4, it is TOO POWERFUL for any kind of conversation in my 08 Civic.
I also bought a 1 Farad capacitor, because my headlights were dimming. This amp has not cut out once, even in near 100 degree heat and bumpin'. I recommend this amp because of it's flawless performance, light price, active cooling, and heavy hitting power. I am very impressed with this amp.

Super Amazing!,

I have 2 12in. Kicker CVX's with 2 ohm DVCs and I have a KAC-9103D but that amp wasn't enough for the 2 subs, so I got this one so the amps were similar. All I can say is "HOLY CRAP!" This amp is definitly powerful. With both subs, I have talked to my friends after I have sat behind them at a red light and they said that I'm rattlin' their car too. Really I can't really describe the power of the amp unless you experience it but again, all I can say is "HOLY CRAP!"

Yeah.. that just happened,
This review is from: Kenwood KAC-9104D 1800-Watt Max Power 1 ohm Capability Class D Mono Power Amplifier with Variable LPF (Electronics)
Intro: This review is long, I am sorry for the length. I bought this amp through a different web site. Purchasing this amp was to upgrade my KAC-9102d amp, I wanted to move to an amp that would handle 1ohm impedance. I have been working with stereo systems for 11 years now as a hobby, I build mid-range systems that compete with high end systems. My old system included the KAC-9102d powering four (4) Power Acoustic FUBAR 12w subwoofers wired in 2ohm on a single channel. The amp and subs were 5 years old and ran as good as the day they were purchased.
First Impression: When I got this amp I was a little disappointed, to be honest. This amp doesn't weight very much compared to my old Kenwood. I thought the fan was a cheap add on, the fan was the first thing I replaced in the amp. I modified the intake and output holes adding high flow Sunon Vapo Bearing fans. With some soldering, drilling and modification the positive and ground of the amp now use lock connectors and accept 2-0 gauge wire without any issues. Other than that I didn't think much of the amp, wouldn't know until hooking it up. The modifications took less than 2 hours. Setup: As stated before, this amp was purchased to replace my KAC-9102d. The bar was set high, so it had a lot to live up too. Setup includes 2008 Honda Civic with sealed trunk and speakers removed from the back deck, Sony Xplod MEX-BT3800U, 2 gauge power wire, Yellow Top Optima, 20 farad capacitor, Clarion equalizer, two Power Acoustic FUBAR 12w subwoofers and the KAC-9104d. The head unit sub db is set to 0. My EQ is turned up 2/3 of full volume, RMS output is around 4.5 volts currently. The amp is receiving 4.5 volt pre-amp input tuned to specific frequency ranges. Amp settings, tuned to 65Hz, gain turned to 3/5 max, bass boost turned to lowest setting and FUBAR 12w subs wired in 1ohm impedance in a sealed box. Performance: I have been impressed with this amp, it has surpassed its younger brother the KAC-9102d. Turning the volume up in my car, with windows open and sun roof open playing Lil Wayne - Lollipop at volume level 10, the amp pushes my subs hard. With the volume turned to 10 the bass shakes my rear view mirror and side mirrors, the bass can be felt but more importantly this amp drives the subs hard enough to give a rich surrounding feel. Good start for this amp. With the volume turned to 18 this amp really shows its performance. There is no distortion in the bass, the sound is crisp and the bass booms. My rear view mirror is useless at that volume, side mirror reflection is heavily distorted, the roof of my civic "pops" up with each hit of the bass, the bass can be felt throughout the cabin of the car at ear ringing volumes. Since putting this amp into my car and having bass hit at the volumes it does, the back deck in my car has come off the metal trunk separator several times, I have had to use screws going in from the trunk to the plastic back deck molding hold it in place. Having my trunk heavily sealed there is no rattle, but at loud volumes my trunk lid looks like water rippling. Pretty impressed with this amp so far. When I turn my EQ volume down for my front speakers I can turn the volume up to 24 before the amp goes into protection mode. For the couple of minutes it plays at that volume the bass is unreal. Everything in the car shakes at that volume, my entire trunk lift warps upwards at that volume. The back deck bows up and down with the bass. You can hear the metal, what metal there is in a Civic, bowing and popping with the bass. This amp pushes hard. Final Thoughts: For the money and performance I am very pleased. Like I stated in my intro I build mid-range systems that compete with high end systems. I do a lot of research before I purchase a product. I look for output, rms, stable impedance and heat dispersal. Brand is not important to me as much as the price and performance. This amp warrants high remarks as there are few amps that can push my system as hard as this, with the clarity and boom that I want, for the price range of this amp. I have been pleased to include this amp with my stereo system and would recommend this amp to anyone looking for entry level to mid-level equipment. Just remember, it's not the brand of your system that makes it great, it's how you tune your system.

I have this amp connected to two alpine type Rs in a sealed box wired to 1 Ohm and MAN IT MOVES AIR! The amp has not cutout once. I have 45 min commutes and has not caused any problems. It gets alittle warm but does a fine job of cooling its self. Great amp, sounds good and the price is right. I would buy another one again.

VERY KLEEN LOOKIN' & POWERFUL...I HAVE THIS HOOKED UP WITH A PAIR OF KFC W3012's & DAMMN I WAS SET!
AT BEST BUY I SAW THIS AMP LIKE FOR MORE THAN 3 BILLS, THEN I SAW IT HERE & I JUST GOT IT HAHA.. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS KENWOOD AMP IF YOURE GETTING THE W3012's, ALPINE TYPE R'S OR OTHER SUBS OF THE SAME POWER RANGE TO GET THE MOST OUT OF THEM.. DO NOT GET THE 8104D AMP INSTEAD BECAUSE IT WONT SHAKE UR RIDE OR EVEN POUND YOUR SUBS AT ALL.. BUT THAT'S ONLY IF U WANT IT TO BE LIKE THAT THOUGH..

Amazing product, bought this amp to use it with two 12" Jack Hammer MTX 500 RMS each one, and the sound is awesome, the only think it doesnt come with is the remote woofer level, but is ok you can live without it. It doesnt overheats or anything good system of cooling with two internal fans, easy to install and to customize the sound... good product...

i have this amp on a 10' Solo Baric L7 at 2 Ohms and the amp can provide all the juice that my L7 needs and then some. the amp does not overheat and it also dims my lights with the stereo turned all the way up but thats what happens when you got a strong amp like this one. its great for the price and its performance is also great.
