This review is from: Kenwood KDC-X590 USB/AAC/WMA/MP3/CD Receiver with External Media Control (Electronics)
** UPDATE May 2008 **For the last 2 months or so, the display has been having a mind of it's own and not coming on sometimes when I start my vehicle. I removed it and opened it up to check to see if something was loose but found nothing. The device stills plays fine, but obviously it is very hard to operate when the display is blank. This turn of events is dissapointing as it was working so well and has great features. Will have to replace it. ** After 7 years of using my factory radio, I decided to upgrade it. I have always been partial to Kenwood and unit had the features that I was looking for espiecially the ability to play MP3 through the USB. The installation and initial config were easy and the unit has performed well. The FM reception is clean and clear and the sound is rich. The remote is easy to hold and the key layout allows me to change source, turn volume up and down, change stations and select tracks just by feel. The display is bright but no too bright for night driving. The unit comes with a long cable for the USB flash drive which allows placement almost anywhere in the dashboard. It takes about 3 - 4 seconds to read the USB (data and music can be mixed on the drive), and plays flawlessy. If the source is changed from the USB to CD or radio, on returning to the USB (once it has not been removed) the music continues from where you left it - it doesn't matter if the vehicle is turned off. I am happy with this choice and receommend it highly.

Kenwood KDC-X590 Design Flaws, Kenwood Issues No Recalls,

Kenwood is a great brand. But when it comes to acknowledging their flaws they fall short as do many manufacturers do.My Kenwood KDC-X590 was purchased locally, legitamitly at an authorized dealer. I owned it from the middle of 2006 to the end of 2009 so about a 3.5 year life on this unit. The problem that ruins it for many if not all owners is that eventually a chip in the faceplate burns out. It seems that the best option here is just to buy a new unit. What a shame as this unit did many great things and did everything I needed. [...] I'm sticking with Kenwood for my deck unit despite this incident and have now got a KDC-HD942U. If this happens again, sorry Kenwood, I'll have to look elsewhere. |
