best home mixer available,
By A Customer
This review is from: Kenwood KM410 Chef Classic 5-Quart Stand Mixer (Kitchen)
I have used this mixer for two years and everything turns out "bakery quality," even the chocolate chip cookies seem professional...frosting is better than anything I've ever made. And, this mixer has 300 wats MORE power than a Kitchen Aid. VERY worthwhile appliance.

Impossible to service, especially under new owner DeLonghi.,

I LOVED my Kenwood mixer, but after 5 years of very light use it appeared to simply "die" in the middle of a batch of cookies. The reset button didn't restore anything. When I inquired with a local servicer, I was told that NO PARTS can be obtained in the states, and that this difficulty worsened after DeLonghi's purchase of the manufacturer. I had terrible difficulty myself trying to get through to DeLonghi for servicing information. Fortunately, wiggling a loose wire resurrected the machine and made my husband a hero... until the mixer truly dies. This is a WONDERFUL machine, but FAR, FAR too expensive to market without the prospect of feasible servicing... or without a much longer warranty period! I will greatly hesitate to replace it with another.

Third Generation Machine.....,

My husband gave me the Kenwood chef Mixer in 1962 (39 yrs ago). It is WONDERFUL! I am sure you cannot find a more powerful home mixer on the market. It has made hundreds of batches of cookies, bread, and cakes while our children were growing up. Our son, Scott, who is a wonderful cook has asked if he could have my mixer someday. Since I was not quite ready to part with it, my mother-in-law (his grandmother) who has recently turned 90,and put away her apron has given him her Kenwood Mixer, which is 40 years old. The new ones do not look any different than the ones we purchased in the 60's. I am trying to locate a Kenwood Chef Instruction and Recipe Book for my son. Grandma has misplaced hers over the years. Can you help me? It is the machine that keeps on giving!!!!! My daughter is now waiting for me to relinquish my machine to her. I hope you can help me locate a book. Thank you!

The best piece of equipment in the kitchen.,
This review is from: Kenwood KM410 Chef Classic 5-Quart Stand Mixer (Kitchen)
My mother bought a chef back in the 1960's and it is still doing duty in her kitchen. When I got married it had to be on the list of wedding gifts. Although this is an expensive mixer, the price is worth it. These mixers do not break. They are strong and reliable.I use mine for mixing bread, pastry, cakes, cookies, whisking sponges, beating eggs and cream, making frosting. And that is just the main bowl. The liquidizer/Blender is in constant use, you cant get a better way to make breadcrumbs or to puree vegetables and soup. When our kids were small we got great use out of the babyfood blender and storage jars. The Kenwood is always my first choice for any baking job, and if you like cakes, you have to have the Kenwood Chef. The basic animal is good enough to sell it. The add ons are what make it versatile and exciting. If you want to grind meat, make pasta, grind your coffee, make coleslaw, whatever, there is an attachment availble which hooks onto this little powerful engine. Buty and you won't be disappointed.

you can not find a better mixer,

Yes, I know, it costs $100 to $150 more than the Kitchen Aid. I have both and I find I use the Kenwood more often. Why? Ease of use is reason number one. The splash/pour shield on the Kenwood is a one piece design that is more effective preventing spills, moves up with the mixer top when you need to add ingredients and has an opening that is easier to load ingrediants through than the Kitchen Aid. It is also more powerful, has a better speed control (a vairable dial instead of detents) and locks in the down position more positively than the Kitchen Aid. It is impossible to overload this thing. I mix pumpkin bread dough in the Kenwood and it doesn't even struggle in the least. The same dough would kill a mere mortal mixer and really makes the Kitchen Aid struggle. I have the Kitchen aid Ultra by way of comparison.Negatives? There are a few: The uncoated aluminum mixer blade is harder to clean than Kitchen Aid (don't even think of putting in the dishwahser) and if you are mixing anything with a high acid content (say containing lemon or tomato)the blades discolor and etch from the acid. The attachments are hard to find and more expensive when you do find them.

I love this mixer! It is SO much better than a Kitchenaid. The motor is much more powerful and more versatile because of its many speeds and pulse mechanism. It's a great choice! After many years, it still works like it was brand new and I have never had a problem with it once.

Great Mixer but Bosch mixer is better,

The Kenwood mixer does a great job but if it breaks down don't count on there being any customer service for this product(because it is non-existant). Bosch does an excellent job mixing, kneading, and whipping and they last forever without any problems.

I've been using my chef model KM201 which is essentially the same as the one currently available since 1996. I lucked out and got it at Walmart for $75. Only because I had seen it in the Chef's catalog did I have any idea what a powerful machine this would be. Actually mine has the Rival logo on it, but it is the very same machine. It has the 5 quart bowl, the K beater, the dough hook, and the balloon whisk. Mostly I have used the K beater and the dough hook.
I have used it for making bread, cakes, and cookies. The French bread recipe in the recipe booklet is terrific. It's just as good as sourdough bread without having to make the starter, etc. The only time it ever quit on me was recently when I was adding coconut to oatmeal cookie dough. It may not have done that if I'd had sense enough to change to the dough hook when adding the coconut. Anyway, even the reset button was of no use, but my handy husband was able to take it apart and repair it. Don't know what he did. I've never had to use the reset button before. I didn't like the sharp rim on the stainless steel bowl that came with it and was lucky enough that I was able to get their plastic bowl before the company was taken over by Cuisinart. My only other complaint is having to stop the machine and scrape the bowl sides before adding other ingredients. However, I've seen that complaint about other planetary motion mixers so I guess I'll just have to live with it. That's the only reason my rating is only 4 stars instead of 5. It truly is a workhorse. |
