Product Description

Amazon.com Review

With 650 watts of power, rugged all-metal casing and gears, and a half-century of British engineering and experience behind it, this stand mixer--among the most powerful on the market--has an international reputation for reliability, versatility, and durability. Both it and Kenwood's 5-quart, 650-watt Chef Classic grace many a household and professional kitchen. All Kenwood mixers feature "planetary" action: tools rotate in one direction, while the tool socket rotates in the other, guaranteeing thorough mixing.

In addition to the standard fixture for inserting beater, whisk, and dough hook, Kenwood mixers have three other outlets (concealed when not in use) to accommodate some 25 attachments such as a potato peeler, juicer, slicer/shredder, pasta maker, and sausage maker (the attachments must be purchased separately). Included with the mixer are a nonstick beater and dough hook, a stainless-steel bowl and balloon whisk, a flexible plastic spatula, a booklet containing 75 recipes, and a transparent, hinged splashguard (and dust cover) for easily adding ingredients during mixing.

At 13-3/4 inches high by 16 inches deep by 9-3/8 inches wide (with the bowl in place) and weighing about 20 pounds, this is a substantial appliance. But despite its size and power, it is not intimidating to operate. As the instructions (admirably brief and clear) make plain, the mixer's virtues include simplicity. Push a lever and the mixer head pops up and locks. Insert, twist, and snap beater, whisk, or dough hook into place. (A simple twist unlocks them.) Lock bowl on its stand. The electronic speed control maintains constant power regardless of the load, and power can be adjusted through eight speeds--or pulsed--with a twist of a dial. Overloading automatically stops the mixer. To clean, wipe the outside and wash the tools and bowl in soapy water. Though the warranty against defects runs just one year, this mixer should provide a lifetime of kitchen convenience--and earn the neighbors' envy. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars The Indispensable Workhorse in our Kitchen!, January 30, 2001
By
This review is from: Kenwood KM800 Major Classic Stand Mixer (Kitchen)
My wife and I have been using the Kenwood Model KM 800 electric kitchen mixer for two years now. During the preceding eight year period,we owned and used the Kenwood 500. We have the three standard accessories (whisk, dough hook and K mixer)and we purchased additional accessories which have worked on both models. The latter include the juicer, blender, grain mill, and coffee grinder. This fantastic machine is the ever-dependable, sturdy workhorse in our kitchen and we have used it successfully without ever having a single problem with it. We grind our wheat and our corn to make flour using the grain mill; we make beautiful meringues and souffles using our whisk for the egg whites; we create the most tantalizing fruit smoothies during the hot summer months using our blender; we grind our fresh coffee beans and make our own flavor blend with the texture we desire using our coffee grinder; most of all we use it as a mixer for all of our baking. We bake fresh bread and breakfast cakes every single day. This is the best mixer that exists today on the market. We have compared it to the Kitchen Aid mixers and found the Kitchen Aid mixer to be of "toy" quality with a mixing bowl that is not nearly as strong and a motor that is not nearly as powerful. If one does not use a kitchen mixer very often or if one wishes to use such a machine for very simple tasks, perhaps the Kenwood investment is not warranted. But for people who love to cook and bake, and for those desirous of quality in their culinary creations, there is absolutely no comparison ... the Kenwood is superb. By the way, according to our friends who are the owners of our old Kenwood 500, the machine is still working great! We can't recommend it highly enough!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Eight Ball of Mixers, June 26, 2000
This review is from: Kenwood KM800 Major Classic Stand Mixer (Kitchen)
This mixer is powerful enough to make several cakes at one time as well as 12 dozen of yeast rolls. This mixer solves my catering buisness problem of having to make one cake at at time or two batches of yeast rolls. I am in love with the power of this mixer. The flexibility of the Eight Ball would set me free, this mixer makes me want to do a bake-a-thon by myself.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would buy at $399.50, October 1, 2000
A Kid's Review
This review is from: Kenwood KM800 Major Classic Stand Mixer (Kitchen)
I agree with... on Sept 4th. I, too, was interested in buying this mixer but, at $499.00 the price point is too steep to justify the benefits over a $219.00 Kitchen-Aid.

If you go back to $399.50 you have a sale from me ( and probaly the man in Maine)

.... Phoenix, Arizona....
