I have never went the sub woofer route and I have always held self powered sub woofers in low regard. Over 30 years of owning a 1979 MGB there have been about 5 major car audio revisions but never a sub woofer. I do not like booming bass or listen to rap. Since the Kenwood KSC-SW11 looked like an easy fit behind the drivers seat I gave it a try.

Love it. The Kenwood BT955HD Center Unit has sub woofer out pre amps and can configure the crossovers. Front door speakers are 6 1/2 Polk MM6501, when the HPF is set to 100Hz the mids become much clearer, I set the rear deck Polk M691 HPF to 80Hz.

Major low cost improvement, bass is clean and tight and blends correctly with the other speakers, mid range no longer has that muddy sound from trying to produce bass that it can not. Who knew?

After reading dozens reviews I decided to purchase the unit as it was one of the few that would fit under the seat of my '87 Toyota MR2 replacing the clapped out stocker. I was really surprised at the sound of this compact unit. No, it won't rattle the windows of the next car over but, it POUNDS in my little car! It really more than fills in the missing bass as a result of the small speakers in the stock locations. It was easy to install and once I adjusted the head unit (Sony CDX-GT360MP) and the sub controls it was phenominal. Way more than expected. Those few negative reviews must have had faulty units or not set up correctly. I would recomend this unit to anyone who needs a compact, effective subwoofer.

Easy install. came with most the wires and connectors you'll need. small and compact. fits under driver seat. good sound with a little adjustment of head unit and settings on remote control. Only reason i didn't give 5 stars is lacks some refinement when it comes to good deep bass, but I'm spoiled having had a good Boston system before.

I recommend this to anyone looking to add a little punch to an SUV, but doesn't want to give up any trunk space.

I installed the Kenwood KSC-SW11 in my 2006 Honda S2000. It fits nicely in the forward area of the passenger foot well. The existing foam block under the foot well area works to secure the subwoofer with some long coarse thread screws. The power and ground go through the lower grommet behind the battery, very easy to run the wires. I am also using the Modifry wiring harness, so no cutting necessary, along with an Alpine CDE-125BT head unit and some Alpine 6.5" component door speakers, and Alpine 4x6 coaxials speakers behind the seats in place of the vents to the trunk, and an Alpine KTP-445 in line amplifier. the only wire cutting necessary with the entire setup is to run the rear speaker wires off the KTP-445, so it is pretty simple.

Now back to the subwoofer install. It is really simple if your head unit has a subwoofer RCA set of outputs (most aftermarket units do). If you do not have the RCA outputs available the KSC-SW11 comes with a wiring harness to be able to splice onto the high power speaker wires to get the signal to the subwoofer. Again, if you have RCA outputs available, just hook up to them. Besides that you need a constant power supply wired to a spare fuse or directly to the battery, a ground wire, and a remote turn on lead (usually blue on most wiring harnesses). Hook them up, plug the wire harness into the back of the Kenwood unit, and plug the telephone style plug for the remote, and you are operational! Tuck all your wires above or behind the unit to clean up the install and keep the remote in a handy location. I found it works best at about 90% of max volume on the remote, and the crossover set to near max also. The phase setting on the remote sounded best for me set to 0 degrees.

I have a surprised experience of a nice punch sound for a small 150w easy install powered sub. Not a lot, but enough for upgraded my feeling into the car doesn't have one.

I purchased this subwoofer because of its compact size. I did not want a huge box in my trunk and thought this would fit nicely under my passenger's seat. I also have a Kenwood KDC-X997 receiver in my 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix; keeping the same brand was a plus. I installed this last night. It took about 4 hours, there was not enough room under the passenger seat. I tried my rear seats but discovered that there is no cavity under the seat. So I had to install it in the trunk. I have an unused OnStar system in my trunk. I was able to find the power on that harness and run it to subwoofer. The RCA cable does not come with this unit I thought it should have. The unit does come with long cable that can connects to existing speakers. I guess they do this since you can buy an RCA cable anywhere and the supplied speaker cable is a specialty cable. The remote control has a 16' foot cable that easily reached the trunk. I installed it in my center console. I installed the subwoofer as close as I could to the back seats. It sounds incredible. I was able to turn off the bass boost setting on the receiver and crank up the subwoofer setting. Now I can hear the full range of sound. The bass can be loud. It could be loud enough to annoy the driver next you at the light. But it's not powerful enough to annoy anyone in their homes as I drive by. I don't intend to turn the bass up that much anyway but I wanted to give you an idea of the power. I am very satisfied with it.
