This amp is the revised version of the 8104D. If you read those reviews, you will see mixed reviews... on the good.. they praise the power and sound quality... on the bad they complain about overheating issues. I just installed this amp today... cant tell you extensive reasearch type info but I have a JL 500/1 to compare to. This amp says 500 watts just like my JL but for the stereo noobs out there... these are NOT in the same class... JL is higher end audiophile quality while this kenwood was made for budget-minded people who still want quality. This amp pushed my JL 12w6v2 just fine but I had a hard time getting the gain just right... I was getting distortion at higher volumes but it may have been due to my MP3 player being up too high. This amp did not make my car lights dim like the JL does and I dont have a capacitor either.
I rode around for about 4 hours bumping the system with the JL sub in for about 2 hrs and it never cut out or seemed to overheat at all. The amp is fairly simple to set up... took me 2 hrs from start to finish and I had to run all the wiring in my GFs car.
Overall great quality and for the price... I dont know if there are others that can compare... Highly recommended for someone on a budget(like most of us these days) who still wants to get a little more out of their system without breaking the bank.

I have two 10" Kicker C10's and this is more than enough power. My system is louder than two of my friends who have two 12's. Also it never gets hot.

This amp does what it says and is very nice looking. I've had it for two months and a half. There hasn't been any problems with it so far. Also it hasn't turned off because of overheating, and I live in Arizona. It is well vented though, I currently have it behind my seat in a 2000 Mustang. This was a great upgrade from a lame Boss amp. I would recommend it to a friend if he had a subwoofer within the RMS wattage range of the amp.

UPDATE 3/12/2014
Just updating so you know it hasn't broke or anything. It's a sturdy little amp with good power.
This amp has still continued making my subs kick, haven't had any issues with heat or anything else. If you're looking for something decent that's not too expensive definitely get this amp, works great.

UPDATE 4/1/2015
Another update for any curios minds out there, this amp is still working great. There are no issues with overheating, random turn offs or anything of the sort. I have this sitting just behind the back window of a mustang so it does sit in the sun during the summer when I am at work for around six hours. Something to praise about is that on my 9AM-3PM shift in the summer this amp won't fuss about the heat. As soon as i get in my car and can start playing my music with no interruptions and it is hot to the touch (again because of its position in direct sunlight). Yes I know i may asking for trouble having it like this, but it just goes to show you how durable this amp is. This makes it two years that I have had this amp and I still love it. Great Product!

I have only been using this amp for a couple days now but I could not be more pleased. I have this amp pushing 1 MTX Terminator 12inch sub in a ported enclosure and it sounds wonderful. I have a Kenwood stereo/head unit I'm going to install soon and will then get input through RCA cables, speaker level inputs are connected now and I keep the bass only 1/2 way up to not blow my regular speakers. The amp was simple to install, looks great, turns on and off with my radio like it should, and stays relatively cool. Dimmed headlights got me to order a Raptor 1 Farad Capacitor which I will install soon hopefully. I highly recommend this amp to anyone looking for a good deal and great bass.

*Feb 24th 2013 Update* Installed the Kenwood Bluetooth stereo, bluetooth so-so, love the USB input on the front!!! Now RCA inputs connect the subwoofer output to the Kenwood amp, Never did install the raptor capacitor. 3 weeks ago I turned the stereos bass boost on and cranked the volume, 10 minutes later I noticed the bass was lacking. Blew the MTX 12 voice coil I believe. NEWAYS.... A Kicker S10L5 SoloBaric 10inch 600RMS 900MAX sub in an enclosed box came my way cheap and after connecting its 2 ohm dual voice coils to run 4ohm I have it connected and will be fine tuning it over next couple days. Currently it's thumping the 10" solobaric beyond what the MTX 12" could do, and some! Input Level is 0, filter around 100, bass boost barely up, IPF filter turned on. I'm thinking I can go a good bit farther since 4ohm is running 300watt RMS.

I have a 350w sub, so naturally I wanted a larger amp to power it. I took a chance with a refurb and it has paid off big time. For those of you who don't know subs and amps all that way, let's go through the basics:

A sub is designed to run with a minimum RMS wattage rating (it will say something 350w RMS and 1200w max). Why the big difference between the two, that's because you are supposed to have an amp that pushes more than the RMS rating of your sub. I chose this amp because my sub is 350w RMS and the amp is 500w RMS. Your amp will run cooler and longer if it pushes more than your sub's RMS rating. Also, you can do damage to a sub if it is under powered.

Also, a Class D amp is designed for subs. It will run cooler than normal amps. If you need to put this amp in an enclosed space, behind carpet, or other place that is not vented, you NEED a class D.

Don't forget the ohm ratings. Every speaker has resistance, because it fights against the motion of sound. You want to match your speakers to the ohm ratings on the amp. If you have speakers with higher ohm ratings (which also change by how you wire up your speakers if there are multiples or if they are dual voice coils), your amp will not produce as much wattage as what it's rated at. Match things up as best you can for optimum sound and power!!

This amp looks sharp and hits hard. I couldn't be happier with it.
