Made of cast-aluminum to retain heat so it can be used time after time with little waiting, this heavy, 1400-watt appliance bakes four, 4-by-4-1/2-inch waffles at once to satisfy the whole, hungry family. Nonstick grids readily release waffles and clean with the swipe of a cloth. A control button permits the heat to be set for extra-crisp waffles that stay moist inside. The same control can be set for soft waffles, and a browning control offers five settings, from light gold to mahogany. A red light shows when the waffle iron is heating, a green light when it's ready, the red light again while waffles are baking, and the green again when they are cooked according to conditions set by the controls. The waffle maker has a polished aluminum top and a stay-cool plastic handle to lift its lid. Waffle recipes are included. --Fred Brack
