Book Description

December 4, 2010
''The noise turns into a roar, a thunder, a incessant explosion, a reflection of life. Angel Falls, the wildest waterfall in the world, is there below my feet and now I can see the water flow distinctly, and the energy of the current that bends the thin grass blades forcefully and then drifts away between a rock and a tree trunk fallen from who knows where. Then that selfsame water leaves the ground and falls into the green of a luxuriant forest incessantly.'' The meeting between a journalist-geologist and a painter reminds the latter of one of his adventurous journeys to the highest waterfall in the world, hidden, like a precious emerald, in the heart of the Venezuelan rain forest, thanks to some notes in a creased notebook kept for more than forty years. A dangerous, initiation journey full of perils overcome that was to take Giampiero Podestà to live an unrepeatable experience in the land of the Yanomami Indios. From exciting Caracas to mysterious Prague, from the refined cultural salons in Paris and Rome to the high-tech skyscrapers in New York, Angel Falls Kerepakupai-merù in the native language- was to reappear many times with its ancestral charm, sealing the most significant moments in the life of the painter who was to turn it into an icon ready to become, with its evocative power and its enchanting fold, a living presence, beyond space and time.

Editorial Reviews

Review

A wonderful adventure in a dream near the highest waterfall in the world, from the bowels of the earth where the Amerindians lived; in the blue sky, the supersonic Concorde at the speed of sound at an altitude of between 50,000 and 60,000 feet. --Christopher W. Davies

Devoted to the pictorial language, the artist is mostly interested in the creation of body and image dimensions and in the quality of the process of conceputal knowledge, ranging from philosophy to mathematical calculation. His chromatic research covers al the possible expressions of visual art: from form to picture, from performance to installation objects, as far as writing. He has dealt with color, still his favorite field of enquiry, since the very beginning, but above all with ancestral form ho human fertility, realizing works where the chromatic surface, amniotic and expanded, emerges from the black background with an original, volumetric dimension that meets and talks with the transgression of specific limits. A traveler ready to grasp the deep meaning both of the places and of their inhabitants, he lives in Italy, U.S.A. and Venezuela since the world is his home.
