This book tells the story of Jack Kerouac's French-Canadian lineage from the time of the arrival of the first Kerouac in Quebec in 1730, to the emigration of Jack Kerouac's paternal grandparents from St. Hubert, Quebec to Nashua, New Hampshire in 1890, to his parents move to Lowell, Massachusetts and Jack's growing up days there. The second half of the book illustrates how Kerouac portrays various members of his extended family in his novels, and points to the impact of his French-Canadian background on his writing in general.
