I purchased this unit in 1998, about 12 years ago. At that time I was just getting into hi quality, performance grade folders. It was my only EDC unit that I owned so it got carried 24/7 work & personal. Although I don't treat my blades like a hammer, prybar or screwdriver I use them hard and expect them to perform. With minor maint, a few drops of oil, wipe blade down and blowing out crap that gets into the liner. The first year was FLAWLESS!! Even the lockup was still tight like new. I did notice the edge starting to dull so I found out that Kershaw will re-sharp their products at n/c, I think you have to pay shipping though. I got it back in about a week and is was surgery sharp again, they did an awesome job, as I expect from the factory. Over the years I sent it to them every year or 2 depending on how hard I'd been using it and they always took good care of me...replaced bent clips etc. About three years ago I got a call from them while it was there and the nice tech said "sir it is clear that you have used the knife well over the years, we have maintained it for years...but it is now at the end of its safe life cycle." This is where I thought I was going to get the blow-off and have a nice day thing. No No No...this fella went on to say that since the knife was used properly he was going to keep the old one and send me a brand new replacement. I was BLOWN AWAY! that is the kind of service you hear from in fairytales! Replacement came in a couple of days. I admit I'm not very well versed with all of the models in their new line but I would recommend the amphibian and the whirlwind without question. I will never forget the outstanding service I have gotten from them over the years. KERSHAW GREAT JOB, keep it up we are watching. :-)
