1) The newest version of this knife is actually 8CR13MoV steel and made in China. Amazon has yet to update its website.
2) The Chinese steel is an upgrade from the previous steel. However, I own the old Japanese version and the Chinese version and the former is built a little better - The knife opens and closes more smoothly.
3) I bought the older...

3.0 out of 5 stars Ok looks and easy to carry
For a little over $10, this is a sharp and convenient knife to use as an every day carry tool. Well-built, it is, however, a chore to open and close. Again, very sharp so users should watch out. I wish that smaller, carry knives like this were made in the U.S.A.

3) I bought the older one for $9 and the newer one for $8. Those prices were excellent. Thus, my 5 star rating (For both) is based on what I payed.
4) The knife is light, can be opened with no hassle, depending on the size of your hands, is sharp, has a nice pointy tip, and is sturdy. The Chinese version opens smoothly, but not perfectly.
5) The knife is small, but highly functional.

I would not pay more than $13 dollars for this knife. Frequently, the price will dip to around $10. The MSRP: $19.95.

5.0 out of 5 stars small wonder, October 8, 2010

I have to say this knife was a great surprise. I wasn't expecting a whole lot for about ten bucks, but I can barely put this down.
It sits unnoticed in a pocket until it's needed, which is exactly what I wanted.

The blade was very sharp out of the box and holds an edge pretty well. It's easy to sharpen, too. Again, I was not planning on this replacing other more versatile knives for everyday use, and it hasn't, but for what it is, it's a pretty great little folder. Certainly a nice break from something like a Victorinox Classic if you don't need or want scissors, and a nail file, etc. That's really what this competes against, not bigger, better folders sold by Kershaw and plenty of other companies.
And for the price, I appreciate having a larger locking blade over the gizmos on a SAK.

About the only gripes I can come up with are
1) no clip - but I knew it didn't come with one when I bought it so I can't really mark it down for that
2) masochistic thumb studs - Ouch, these are small and sharp. Loosening the pivot bolt a bit means I don't have to use as much pressure, which helps.

This is a well-crafted, light and very nicely furnished pocket knife. The one-hand open is a bit tough, but that is my only real gripe.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well-made, but so small it's really a toy for grownups., September 28, 2010

This well-crafted knife is insanely small. So small that its one-handed opening design is not realistic for anyone with normal-sized hands. So small that its handle does not come anywhere close to being a normal, usable handle. We are talking about a knife for half-sized people with half-sized hands.

You can use it to open a box, but that's a job for a $3 utility knife. It's too small to slice an apple, a sandwich, etc.

That said, the construction quality is very high. It's probably the best-made teeny tiny knife I have seen.

5.0 out of 5 stars A++++ Great little knife, May 13, 2011
This review is from: Kershaw LFK Pocket Knife (Sports)
Well I was in the market for a "bug" knife to carry along side of my Spyderco. I was looking around on Amazon and ordered a few different knives but this one came first so it will get the first review. It is a Kershaw LFK. When I opened the box my first impression was wow not to big not to small (for a backup) knife. Seems very well made in all aspects. Mine has no play in the blade and it is razor sharp. It fits perfectly in the coin pocket of jeans or just throw it in your pocket with everything else. I also think it has a great look to it as well. All in all I am very happy with this knife so far and find it to be a great EDC along side a bigger more purpose friendly knife. On amazon it is currently $10.66 but when I ordered it, it was at $9.89. I also ordered a few other knives as I said earlier so it qualified for free shipping. I would recommend this for anyone looking for a great little "bug" knife.

It's a small knife, fits on a keychain perfectly. Arrived sharp. Seems to hold an edge well. Finish stands up well. Easy to open, easy to release and close.

5.0 out of 5 stars A True Bargain, and an Excellent Pocket Knife, January 27, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kershaw LFK Pocket Knife (Sports)
Having given some other Kershaw knives less than 5 stars, and be chastised for it by Kershaw fans, I am delighted to give this product 5 stars. I'd give it 6 stars if I could.

The good and the better features of this knife:

It has a nice black anodized finish on the handle, which has only one hole for use with a lanyard or to put on a key ring. No other spare holes for clips or other reasons (something that subtracted a star on the Salvo and OD-1.

It doesn't have a clip, but in my mind pocket knives should have clips unless the blade is long enough to classify it as a concealed weapon. The blade on the LFK is exactly 2" (measuring the sharpened edge, not from the pivot point)

It is made in China, but only known by it being printed on the blade in tiny letters. Otherwise I'm sure it meets Kershaw's stringent standards.

It opens with relative ease with one hand using the thumb studs, and locks in place when open (important for any knife, but particularly one with a sharp blade.

For under $10, this knife is an absolute bargain. When I need a filler item to get free shipping, I'll add an LFK to my order to give as a gift or keep as a spare.

Very pleased with this purchase (despite Amazon's plummeting level of customer service; but that is not part of a review).

Very sharp out of the box. I carry this knive with me everywhere I go. Fits perfectly in the little 5th pocket of my jeans. For the unbelievable price I paid for it, I wish I could give it 6 stars!
